I had one of the scariest nightmares I have ever had today when I took a power nap at our sleeping quarters. It wasn’t like any of the others; it’s not disturbing, not to me, that is-no zombies, no monsters, no ends of the world, no people I care about dead or being killed in front of me, no dying or being killed. It was just plain terrifying.
So there I was, sleeping right? Might be in REM. All of a sudden, something let out this blood curdling scream to my left. (At this point, I still haven’t remembered the other stories of various officemates about this “screaming something” in their dreams.) So I opened my eyes to peek, pissed, because come fucking on, I was trying to sleep. The plan was to glare at whoever this bitch was that woke me from light slumber but I COULDN’T EVEN MOVE. All I could do was stare in horror at some screeeeeechiiiiing black wisp floating like a
gengar, with about the same misshapen mouth but with much less obvious form. My fight or flee response has always been flee so I wanted to get out of the room but I felt so heavy, like something was pinning me down. But wait, there’s more! More freaky smoke thing. Another one to my right joined in the screaming so all the disorientation and confusion and panic and WHAT THE HELL STOP SCREAMING AND LET ME GO. They weren’t even saying anything just iaaaaaaraaaaahhhaaaaaaawaaarawhhhh in the highest octave. Thankfully (?) I was sane enough to remember an article (that I’ll quote it later) I’ve read a few days back so I knew I was in limbo, half-conscious, half-dreaming. So I kept thinking I had to wake up, wake up, wake up, but then everything went black…
And I woke up. But apparently I’d crossed back over to dreamland instead, though at the time I thought I had already woken up. So I went and told my officemates about the damn dream. We were, weirdly enough, heading for the sleeping quarters. Apparently, I didn’t have my sandals on so we went back to look for them. The sleeping quarters became something like an evacuation center IDK because there were more people outside the room where there were makeshift beds and some futons on the floor and whatever. I didn’t find that odd while in the dream but I did ask myself why there were so many people and I wished I could find my sandals soon so I could get away from them-I’m such a social person even in nightmares. So then I reach around under the bed I had slept in earlier (not at all scared that something other might be there to reach back aaaaah >_> because I wasn’t just telling them of this scary dream I’d had). I found pairs of cute slippers made of wood (not like the Japanese geta but I did call them Japanese shoes in the dream) that look kiiinda like
this or
this but the top just barely covers the toes and the… body (which I think is called the foot bed idek) was an odd curved shape. I tried looking for something that looks the same but… Anyway, the sandals aren’t that important, just that they were so cuuuute. Though at this point, I think my brain’s melted since nothing was making sense so idek what’s important anymore. So, yeah, I didn’t find my sandals which annoyed me to death because I love this pair. I have virtually used them every day since I bought them, what, five, six months ago. (I think that was the real nightmare… not the dumb formless things yelling at me.)
And then I actually woke up because I had to pee-which means I was going to a restroom in my dream as a sign.
Scientifically speaking, I think what I had experienced was called Sleep Paralysis: “Caught between sleep and wakefulness, someone experiencing sleep paralysis experiences the frozen muscles associated with a deep sleep while their mind is aware of reality. The worst part is that they tend to sense a menacing figure or presence in the room. Frozen, terrified, and conscious, these individuals can begin to panic. Some believe that this phenomenon is behind the weirdly common claim of being abducted by aliens.” (

Wild dream(s) that started as bone chilling and ended as... brain fart idek. What I know, though, is that I’m not gonna nap in our sleeping quarters for a while. orz
So I wrote the above earlier, after the nightmare. It's been twenty hours since... but I can't sleep. Uh, rather, I don't wanna sleep. T^T I've never been this scared of sleeping but the set up is just too similar that a repeat might be possible. I still have a bunk bed, but the top bunk is being used for storing boxes with stuff. And I was sleeping in the bottom bunk earlier. But I'm so exhausted... Maybe I'll just leave the lights on... Yeah. I'll do that.
