An expired passport is still a valid form of identification for proving US citizenship and identity- I mean, you got one in the first place! I would check, you might be able to use it for your name change anyway.

When I went to go change my name on my SS card, I went at like..7am (or whenever they first opened in the morning). I wasn't working then, so I was able to go at that time, even though I was dead to the world at that ungodly hour. Yes, even tho I have a job now, 7am is still too early. :)

The US government... an incompetent, self serving bureaucracy that only seeks to further its' own adgenda.

Government makes decisions for us with our best interest in mind? Give me a goddamn break.
