In Which I Am Apparently Doing NaNoWriMo of a Sudden, and Also Insulting a Beloved Author

Nov 19, 2010 08:29

Driving back from town yesterday, making jokes about the Norse Myths with my beloved as one does, and the great big epic (sagic?) Showdown At The End Of The Myth, as one does- laughing over how apparently all it takes to kill a god is halitosis, and like that ( Read more... )

That sounds really neat! I know very little about Norse mythology (although I did sort of follow here because I know a bit about runes), but this sounds cool! I wouldn't worry too much about the Gaiman thing- there's always going to be naysayers, so just ignore them and write what you want to write. And heck, there are people who have never read that book (me, for one- all I know of Gaiman is Good Omens), so not everyone will be able to make a connection there, anyway.

Well, I may make you beta when it's in second-draft;). Which, uh, may be sooner than expected if I keep it up at the pace I made this morning.

And I know, intellectually, that in this day and age of a billion entertainments, no one is really THAT all-pervasive. But thank you for reminding me of it, there. Because damn, sometimes it sure feels like Gaiman Rules All.

Sounds fun. ;) I take it that it's coming along well?

Glad I could help. ;) Yeah, I've never really had a desire to read anything by him; the only reason I read Good Omens was because Pterry cowrote it.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but you can't call it Norse By Norsewest - it was the name of a level in a game.

I'm sure you have already thought of something else though.

Actually I could call it The Joy of Cooking if I wanted to; you can't copyright titles.

But I want to know, now- ONE level in a game? 'Cause I'd do my best to play an actual game where that was the whole thing.

And I'm going with the working title of Hanging Tree.

See, I like what you came up with much better.

If it's any comfort - I went to see Neil Gaiman doing a reading once - and he joked about feeling he ought to apologise to Diana Wynne Jones (they know each other) because his American Gods is somewhat related to her 8 Days of Luke - which was written in the 1970's so ... I *really* wouldn't worry about it - go on and write your Western - you know we all want you to : )
