no more sunrise...
i got used to getting up early every morning at 5 30 to watch the sunrise and now its going to be hard to break that habit but i guess its not that bad of a habit huh? well i can take this time to update ya'll on the entire trip i guess.
9th: we woke up at like 4 in the morning and loaded up the van by 4 30 and went to logan. we dragged all our 38 pieces of luggage to the check in counter and the lady got reallllly annoyed w/ us cuz we had so many and some of them were over 70lbs. after we checked in we went through security and went to our gate. a few of us went to starbucks and got coffee (yumyum) and got bagels and whatnot. au bon pain had no cream cheese so i had to use andrew's leftover one and his knife haha. it took me FOREVER to eat that bagel for some reason and matt made fun of me for it. we boarded the plane and that was interesting. got "breakfast" on the plane and me and sb got fruit cuz the other stuff smelled gross. it was like a 3 hr flight and we slept most of the way. went through customs and stuff then got our luggage. mr. moody's got lost but that was the only one. we loaded up our huge bus and had a 4 hr bus ride to barahona. we stopped on the way at pollo rey for lunch and once at the side of the road so the guys could do their business. we got to barahona but the bus couldnt take us up to the mission house cuz the roads were too bad so we loaded up the pickup truck with the luggage and piled ppl in minivans and it was an extremely bumpy ride. we got there, had dinner, showered, and had our first group dev. afterwards i did some stairs and whatnot. showered again and went to bed.

10th woke up at like 6 and did my solo time and got coffee w/ matt. had breakfast. all piled into the pickup truck/van and we went around to check out where we'd be working at and stuff. we visited batey mena first and walked around there. we saw a guy that both arms got hurt by a machetii and charlie had some slings on him. (its a God thing i swear) we loaded back up on the truck after a million picture w/ the kids and them calling me "china" haha. they would call the rest of the group "americanos!" and pointing when we past them. we went to batey 7 and past batey 3. we visited batey 6 the last and checked out where we would be painting and whatnot. we went back to the house for lunch and made pb&j. we had free time to unpack, clean up, sleep/whatever we wanted to do. had dinner and group dev. made 200+ pb&j sandwiches for vbs the next day. the haitian guys sang for us. then me, charlie, drew, dave, and andrew did stairs.
11th: woke up at like 5 30 and watched the gorgeous sunrise. got coffee w/ matt. got dressed for vbs (skirts for girls, pants for guys) and we waited on the steps for us to leave. ppl started rapping in english/spanish/french/creole w/ sb's djembeing. i sat on one of the thermoses in the truck on the side and it took us like 40 min to get there. we got to batey mena and the kids were waiting for us to start vbs. i was in charge of taping and taking pictures. so i had like 4 cameras on me. vbs was crazyyy the kids would not behave and kept on trying to take stuff. we loaded up at the end and went to this rocky beach thing and bartered for stuff. the water was gross close up cuz they prolly dump stuff in the water but far out it was so aqua blue. went back had lunch, foosball, dev. made 200+ pb&j again during a lightning/thuderstorm (it was awesome) and the power kept on going out. after we finished a group of us went out to stand in the rain and got completely drenched. the guys showered in the rain (sketchy yes i kno) and shampooed their hair and everything. dave went to get the shampoo and he go body lotion first (way to go dave) and second try he got conditioner cuz he claimed there was no shampoo so finally someone else went and got shampoo for the poor boys who had lotion and conditioner in their hair already. we grabbed dan and carried him by his arms and legs and dumped him in a huge mud puddle and we hugged seth and got him all wet. we showered and played silent football. lauren had to lick charlie's ear and charlie had to lick matt's ear and matt dropped out cuz he would not lick dan's foot. (cuz of his infected toe haha sorry dan). seth was gonna have me, andrew, dave, and charlie wade in the sess pool (so gross) but we wouldnt so we had to do pushups...
12: watched sunrise and solo time. me, dave and andrew wanted to hang our feet off the back of the truck but we couldnt cuz nancy was driving behind us so we were in like a fetal position all the way there to batey mena lol. me, matt, and meghan were "groupo morado" and tied purple yarn on our kids. had games first and then story time then crafts/music. the sketchy teenager guys got annoying. this little boy in a green long sleeve shirt kept on finding me even tho he was in the red group and he was soo cute. i took him back to his group at least 3 times. some of the kids were so mean and meghan had to break up this huge fistfight and stuff. lunch was chaos too and we went to batey 6 after and had lunch then sanded the walls we were gonna paint w/ "dominican sand" which is a piece of cinder block and then we primed the walls. andrew and charlie were really messy and got primer all over themselves and me lol. went back to the house and had dinner, group dev and curfew wasnt til 12:30. it was great. we played silent football again (deadly game i tell you) and dave had to pick drew's nose and mallory backed out because she didnt want dave to pick her nose too. she had to bow to seth to be excused. i got to come up with dan and andrew's punishments. (evil grin) they had to shave a strip of thei leg hair... it was gross. lol i have a video of it somewhere. dan didnt get much hair off cuz the razor was full of "andrew hair"--dan haha we played some signs cuz moral was "low"
13: sunrise/solo time/coffee con matt. breakfast was at 8ish. got ready to go to the beach and hung out on the stairs. matt and andrew tired to kill all the wasps we saw cuz there was a wasp nest like right there. the beach was soo rocky but the waves were nice. there was a freshwater pool that flowed into the ocean too. the waves were so strong when we tried to body surf on them we usually got flipped and that kinda hurt... had lunch, had this "sermon" thing that seth gave for the dominican-haitians and passed out tracts to them. some kid started throwing a plastic bag at me and lauren and we threw it back at him.. got old after a while so lauren sat on the bag and we acted like we didnt know where it was. but then the kid started throwing rocks at us, lil brat. haha these ppl were washing their hair and stuff in the stream and it was so gross... (pink?!) then me and lauren pretended to be reporting on the beach to dave on his camcorder. on the vanride back we threw water on the van and junior sprayed us w/ his bottle. showered, had dinner, group dev. and practiced our songs for church. did stairs w/ dave, drew, and charlie but i was really annoyed so i kinda did it w/o them to vent and i kinda tripped and screwed up my ankle but w/e. showered, then meg got me to go downstairs to hang out w/ them.
14: went to church in the morning. we were all dressed up and stuff. sang in church. went back to the house, showered and went shopping at downtown barahona. went back and changed for the night service. most of the guys rode in the back kof the truck and it started thunderstorming on the way there and that was interesting. there were wicked sketchy guys there while we were waiting outside. andrew being the very nice friend he is.. had to go talk to them, made me go over and talk to them, then told them a bunch of lies about me lol. we were wicked late to dinner. on the way to dinner this HUGE beetle fell on gerritt from the tree and he screamed like a girl. they were all standing up and screaming so both cars stopped and they killed it and left it on the road. we got to dinner lik 2 hrs late haha good times. it was chicken and fries and soda :-/ and some really weird ice cream that i didnt get. when we got back to the house we still had to make pb&j and by that time we were so annoyed w/ each other. matt walked in the kitchen and people were waving knives around... yea so we resorted to working in silence.
15: sunrise, solo time, coffee, breakfast. went to batey 7 for vbs. groupo morado was in games first again. the kids were pretty good compared to batey mena. gerritt told me to entertain the kids and i was like "im chinese... im entertaining enough" haha yea well they were amused to see a chinese girl. lol drew got dehydrated or something and was puking his guts out so he was laying down. i was a "door nazi" during story time so i didnt let anyone go in or out. i colored w/ a bunch of kids during crafts and matt came over and they called him "loco" and he called them "loca". loco americanos really eh? they were pretty good during lunch too. it was nice. we went to batey 6, had lunch and started priming the walls and whatnot. the guys played some basketball after and this DR teenage guy was like "megan come here" and Lauren was like "no" and he was like "why" and she told him he was ugly in spanish and he was like "uugly?" (with the u sounding like 'oo') and she's like "no bonita, wait guapo" then we ran back to the church haha. on the truck ride home seth taught me and angie "written in red" and sang a bunch of songs. after dinner, seth caught dave watching his camcorder where he taped the boys putting 4 day old dirty underwear in seth's pillow sooo seth put dave in a headlock and dan brought out the dirty boxers and seth accidentally kicked dan in the face. Seth, dave, dan, and andrew were plotting afterwards about how to prank the girls... we made pb&js and played hot potato after. matt tattooed me w/ permanent marker and i looked like a punk. when we were about to go to bed at lik 11 the boys serenaded us w/ hero ^^ hilarious.
16: morning routine, went to batey 7 for vbs again and the kids were SO bad compared to how they were the day before. we gave up our lunch for the kids cuz there were too many of them we didnt have enough pb&j for them all. we had crackers and trailmix bars for lunch. part of the group went around to play w/ the kids and whatnot. dan and some of the other teenage guys had a rap battle in english/spanish. dan rapped about how the red sox was better than the yankees haha. i jump-roped w/ some of the kids. dave dumped gatorade on seth when he was sleeping and then screamed liek a girl when seth dumped water on him. dave got a bloody nose and threw a bloodied tissue at meghan. poured water on me when i did nothing to him and i screamed bloody murder haha. :-p i chilled w/ dan and eunice (pastor wilfredo's sister) in the back of the truck and sang. dan did some "country rap" and amused us very well. things like how i looked like a bee w/ my sunglasses on, gerritt falling on his "great fat butt". dave kept on thinking i was a haitian child cuz i was so dark? haha weirdo jkjk i hearts ya. on the way home on the back of the truck when the van was right behind the truck, dan and dave started yelling "SEX! SEX!" wicked loud off the back of the truck. the look on nancy's face was priceless haha the rest of us were hanging on to each other laughing so hard. we had mac'n cheese for dinner and andrew introduced me to putting ketchup on it (yum) dave wanted to have a deep conversation and i fell asleep on angie's lap ^^
17: pancakes for breakfast. went to batey 3 and thought i was gonna scream cuz the kids were so bad lol. the boys were so rude and selfish. my contacts were killing me too cuz of the dust so taht didnt help my mood. i thoguht i lost my contact when i was taking them out to put on my glasses but lauren helped me find them. these teenage girls tried to talk to me but i had absolutely no idea what they were saying and i felt bad. lunch was the worst part. i was holding the lollipop bucket and they were all grabbing me and poking me through the window and on all sides. im like "NO" and we like escaped to our storage area and i picked up the cutest little girl called Marianna. we went to batey 6, had lunch and siestaed. while like 5 of us had our siesta the rest of the group took a tour of batey 6. when i woke up there were all these kids in the church when they werent suppose to be in there and they were all like "CHINA!" im like "oh God not now..." they guys went to play baseball w/ the kids and the rest of us walked around the batey to witness to ppl. it was really cool to talk to them and stuff. we saw the cutest baby goat and it was adorable. on the truck ride home dan and andrew kept on talking about their prank in code. after dinner and worship time i had a really nice heart to heart w/ elisabeth.
18: sunrise for the last time and solo time. muffins for breakfast and hung around cuz we didnt know if we were gonna go paint or go to the rainforest. dave spit watermelon seeds at seth and seth finally noticed and chased dave around and andrew threw seeds at the fan?... we ended up going to the rainforest and it was sooo gorgeous. the water we swam in was so clean and cold. the guys were pushing each other in when we got there and they picked me up and dumped me in. im like "why mee... u didnt get any of the other girls" lol dan grabbed meghan and she was kicking and screaming "my towel!!" cuz she didnt want it to get wet so we took her towel and he dumped her in. drew pushed me in alot and i got him back when he was bending over and i shoved him in. andrew pulled me in w/ him and finally gerritt was like "andrew stop trying to get the girls. megan stop trying to taunt the guys to push u in" lol funny times. the only person the guys couldnt get was junior. they picked seth's chair up when he was sitting in it w/ his towel and dumped him, chair, towel and all in the water and again when he had dave's towel. when we had to go me and steph got a flower and we crammed 11 ppl somehow in the truck. i took a nap on the 3rd floor on the bench w/ my pillow and sweatshirt but charlie woke me up to tell me that we were gonna go walk around barahona. we gave out a bible and talked to other people. we had to go back cuz the area wasnt safe tho. we showered and pastor wilfredo treated us to dinner. we teased seth about eunice. me and andrew played with the most adorable kitty. she didnt have claws yet so we kept on petting her and she'd try to swat our hands haha soo cute. the girls kept on playing with this baby and my batteries for my camera ran out :( our last team dev was sad and when they started talking about all the verses we had to memorize i started laughing cuz *cough* some of us only learned 2 sections *cough* i got some benodryl after and crashed
