No way for the AT

Jan 27, 2005 08:22

So I'm not leaving for the AT in 2005, I don't believe. Kawasaki changed the APR on all Good Times cards (how I got my motorcycle... all on the credit card. It's great, having massive credit lines and enough responsibility to pay it off like clockwork) purchases above $999, which my Ninja safely WAS, so I owe, roughly, $600 more on the bike than ( Read more... )

I personally prefer his work with Big Wreck over the solo stuff that I've heard.

Ian Thornley is cool, though. He's also one freakishly tall mofo. It's almost frightening to stand anywhere near the guy. You never know when he's going to flip out and look for someone to snap over his knee or something.

If you like the heavy sound he gets out of his guitar I'd recommend checking out Gordie Johnson of Big Sugar sometime (if you haven't already). Big Sugar's Hemi-Vision and Heated are very good albums and definitely worth listening to at least once.

JESUS what a band Big Wreck was. I still contest that that's what Led Zep would sound like if they were still together in the late '90s. Great progressive blues element to an otherwise straight-up thinking man's rock band. And yes, I prefer Ian's work with them over Thornley, but the Thornley album sounds more like him. Which makes sense on the surface, Thornley being like a Dave Matthews Band-like non-solo solo band, but he was Big Wreck, especially on The Pleasure and The Greed. Only on Come Again, the production is a lot truer to his sound, and the mixing is drop-dead phenomenal. He's got a better rhythm section this time around, so why not make some mosh pits with it?

And I tried out Big Sugar in my big Let's Try Out All Canadian Bands When We're Dating a Canadian craze, and they got discarded along with Alexisonfire and latter day Alanis (although I'll still hold on to my Jagged Little Pill copy). No, I never bought a Brian Adams CD, I did NOT go there. You were kind enough to apologize for him, so what's done is done.-

Alexisonfire is pure shit in a can. True story. Same goes for Alanis. She's worse than Bryan Adams, in my opinion. At least he's got a greatest hits worth of good songs.

Cheers.

GREAT timing to play a little Big Sugar in Men With Brooms.

I want to do bad things to Paul Gross.

Music reference... would Piper work? I don't know if your reference needs certain qualifications, but you know, he teaches music at the White Mountain School. And I know Courtney busted her ass enough to get my sorry ass into Bennington... so maybe the truth can be stretched a little to say that he's really watched you grow as a musician and you can do 5 cycles of somethings in 40 seconds... Anyway, I don't know if you know him, or have met him ever, but it's worth a shot, eh? I have email and phone number if you'd like... I'm on AIM now, but you're probably playin' some shirtless raging drums (heh).... anyway, send an email if you think it might work.

Yeah I definitely know who Piper is, he edited the artwork for the Mantrash CD so we got to spend three quality hours in the upstairs over there together. Good times, trying to remember the lyrics to the Oompa Loompa song (still prefer the Pawtucket Patriot Brewery version). *gets misty ( ... )

Thanks for your concern about that situation, by the way. That puts you in a very SMALL minority. Think Miata-sized minority.
