Re: the racism/classism issue - I think we differ a bit here. Not in the whole "it ought to be addressed in kids books" thing because there we're totally on the same page. I guess I just think that she did a slightly better job of bringing up the issues in the book, she just didn't resolve them. The end where they're not sitting by house or class or species or bloodline is quite a clear image. And I agree that there are complications in the way that Kreacher is redeemed and then goes back to being a "good domestic slave" but the way that Rowling says - literally - that Sirius died because he treated a sentient being as a slave and an animal - has a lot of currency with me.
Perhaps it's wishful, but I felt that Rowling highlighted a lot of the hypocrisies and inconsistencies and horror inherent in segregation without necessarily offering a pat solution beyond "remember it's wrong and don't you participate in such behaviour," which seems like perhaps ( ... )

I've got a job! With a flood-cleaning-up company, ROFL. THEY ARE QUITE BUSY. Office work is piss easy, isn't it? Compared to everything else one can do to earn money.
