Re: the racism/classism issue - I think we differ a bit here. Not in the whole "it ought to be addressed in kids books" thing because there we're totally on the same page. I guess I just think that she did a slightly better job of bringing up the issues in the book, she just didn't resolve them. The end where they're not sitting by house or class or species or bloodline is quite a clear image. And I agree that there are complications in the way that Kreacher is redeemed and then goes back to being a "good domestic slave" but the way that Rowling says - literally - that Sirius died because he treated a sentient being as a slave and an animal - has a lot of currency with me.

Perhaps it's wishful, but I felt that Rowling highlighted a lot of the hypocrisies and inconsistencies and horror inherent in segregation without necessarily offering a pat solution beyond "remember it's wrong and don't you participate in such behaviour," which seems like perhaps

Oh, Regulus/Snape is so my OTP and the book didn't destroy it. I don't think so, I am writing the fic in my head right now, but I cannot put the dates together properly. STILL. Regulus probably learnt all about the potion and that from Snape, either them sharing information because they both knew the other wasn't really with the DEs anymore,though they could never say it aloud, or possibly Regulus being all sneaky and stealing information from Snape. And Snape probably knowing and knowing that Regulus was going off to get himself killed and he just couldn't care because Lily was dead and Regulus looks like Sirius who got Lily killed and Snape was all a bit messed up and probably their whole relationship was a bit fucked up and bad.

Omg! Yaay! First proper spoiler I read, which I was looking forward to, so no worries. At least now I know it isn't so rubbish and will make an attempt to get my hands on it with more eagerness than before.
