Advice?

Dec 11, 2005 20:49

I'm going to a christmas party this coming Sunday (18th) and my dish to bring is homemade desert to feed about 50ish peoples. Any ideas what to make? I'm kitchen challenged, so I need something that's simple, fast, good-tasting, and ecnomical. Worse case, I'll resort to making brownies but I haven't made that in 7ish years.

You're so wonderful, Alska. I know beggers can't be choosers but I wouldn't mind some more ideas. I'd just like to see what my options are. Thanks again and thanks in advance. You don't know how much this is helping me out. For a guy that doesn't know the first thing to cooking, this is a big step. I AM a master at the microwave though, haha. I'm going to start production, hopefully, wednesday night and just in case I fail horribly I still have a few days to try something else.

what about those round puff things you pour chocolate one... what are they called? profiterolls?

Or a big chocolate/toffee tart type thing (something so rich they won't want to eat very much...

Or fruit salad....

Will you marry me? Thanks a ton, that sounds pretty good, smilez. Lets say I make this Friday evening (as a fail safe) and do succeed, will this desert survive until Sunday? And is this something I can find all at wal-mart? After taking it out to soften up can it stay out for the rest of the party or does it have to stay pretty cold? Sorry if i'm asking too many questions, cooking/baking makes me nervious.

Well since I'm morally opposed to the existance of Wal-mart I'll say no. ;)

It will survive until Sunday, but as with most baked goods the closer you make it to the time you're going to eat it the better it will be. It doesn't have to stay cold at all. As a matter of fact, after the intial setting of it I leave it out of the fridge.

And, yes, I'll marry you. :)

yes its cup :)

you can double the recipe to make more ... just times it all by 2 :D

1/2 + a 1/2 of course makes 1 cup

1 c. coconut?
1/2 c. whipped cream, whipped?

Oky...So I found the first 3 items pretty quickly but had a harder time finding the others. While in the store running around, I wasn't sure if you meant a real coconut, canned (they didn't have any), or the shredded sprinkly kind. And the whipped cream, I'm pretty sure you meant the can version that you spray cuz I couldn't find anything else. (This is almost hurtin my self-image, lol. Might have to spend the rest of my life microwaving.)
