What should I do?

So DM has been sick for two weeks. It could be the flu or it could be a cold. It started out with a sore throat, chills and low fever. Then the chills and fever went away and it turned into a bad cough and fatigue and body aches. He had a seasonal flu vaccine a couple weeks before but according to several sources, the only flu here is the swine flu ( Read more... )

Wow I can't believe the doc is saying he may have a cold with chills and bodyaches. You don't get chills with a cold! That is bizarre to me that they said that. Dammit Danger Doc...is he not familiar with THIS ( ... )

Yea, the doc said I should go get it tomorrow if I feel worse.
I know it isn't for over the counter, I was just wondering why- seems like it should be.

I was just thinking of you because I was looking for this "pashmina" thing I have/had so I could use it on the plane since my flight is at an ungodly hour and I want to sleep. But I don't seem to have it. I think I got rid of it when my parent were pressuring me to "JUST THROW IT OUT" about all my stuff...>:(
It's probably AT THE DUMP!

Yea, I was thinking of going up to Whole Foods (the best I can do in this dumb town) to see what they have. I'll see if they have this stuff.

Stu had the same exact thing as you described DM had, incl sore throat, chills and low fever. it lasted a little over 2 wks too. i started to get a bit of a sore throat and fatigue but it vanished after 2-3 days, so never got it full blown. dont think its flu.

Yea, I feel the same as yesterday, no worse, and no new symptoms. I guess I may just have a cold.

Take the tamiflu. You were lucky to get it early. Dange has the swine flu -- it sure sounds like influenza, and h1n1 accounts for more than 90% of the cases in the US right now. Tamiflu doesn't just reduce the duration of the flu, it also decreases the severity of the symptoms. And the sooner you take it, the better.

Yea, the doc said if I felt worse today to go get it and take it. But I feel better today! My throat isn't sore at all! I took 3000 mg vitamin C yesterday and had been taking 2000 mg daily since DM got sick. Not sure if it helped or if the sore throat was from something else or what. I should probably go fill the prescription at least. Then I'll have it on hand if I need it before it becomes a shortage scenario, huh?

Yeah, I would certainly fill the prescription.

The shortage thing worries me. Already there isn't enough vaccine. There may not be enough Tamiflu. And there may not be enough hospital beds. It would suck to die at home because the hospital was choked with less serious cases, but it could certainly happen.
