You can try to move the hard drive over, but it will likely end in tears. Or it might just work after it re-detects all of the hardware.
You could load up his machine, delete all of the hardware in the Device Manager, install it in your machine, and it'll theoretically re-detect. Or it may give you a "holy fuck" and just not boot. You could theoretically recover it with an install of XP over the fubared version, but you may also end up with one terrible install of Windows.
The best solution is to take his hard drive, format it, and reinstall from scratch.
