I met a speaker for the asexual movement who talked about how intimacy is feeling vulnerable with another person.
Most sexual people achieve this through nakedness, but that's not the only way--that's why friendships and non-sexual relationships where you're vulnerable are so important.
Also, I think at least a certain level of intimacy, vulnerability, trust and a warm affectionate relationship should come before any kind of sex or even kissing.
At least, that's what feels/felt right to me. The reason I got my first kiss at almost 18 was because I didn't have the kind of friendship/intimacy with anyone I wanted before I let anyone that close. Or something. I dunno.
