Woke up to a cold sore - on my nose! Ugh! Thank goodness for modern medicine. I'm popping anti-cold sore pills, so hopefully it won't be so bad. Still. This is not a good look, and not too pleasant either. It itches, and whenever I absentmindedly scratch at it, I'm pretty sure I'm making it worse

It's a bit of a family affliction in my family and we swear by putting some wet/mushed paracetamol (like tylenol) on it before you go to sleep. That way the sore dries out and doesn't itch/hurt anymore.
I've never heard of pills specifically made for cold sores. We do have cremes and stuff, but somehow the virus gets immune to that after a while.

Oh, but the pills are brilliant! The active ingredient is aciclovir, same as in the ointment/creme, but it takes several days off the process! If you catch it before the blisters form, you can pretty much skip the whole thing. Me, I always wake up to fully formed blisters. Thanks, body. Also, I was not expecting a rerun of the nose situation, so maybe my nose *was* tingling, and I attributed it to general hayfever-ness, so, meh.
But really, the pills are like, the best kept secret, and for no reason! All you have to do is ask your doctor. I have a standing prescription.
