you could always talk to her doctor too and see if it is in fact an allergy, not just a sensitivity. (and to also figure out what else she is really allergic to) Her doctor could give suggestions for alternatives to the cow's milk. I have a cousin who was lactose intolerant since birth (he's 8 or 9 now) and I believe my aunt gives him soy milk instead.
Reactions like that are scary and stressful. Good on you for keeping a cool head. I had a host of food allergies when I was a child, including eggs - ubiquitous in baked goods. Only now can I appreciate how difficult it must have been for my parents. I outgrew them all, save for the deadly nuts.
Throwing up is a natural and preferable response to ingesting an allergen. If I accidentally have a nut, my digestion shuts down and sooner or later everything comes back up. It's gross, but I always feel SO much better afterward.
