What I think when I see hitchhikers is that it's too bad we don't live in a world where you could be nice and just pick them up and give them a ride without having to worry that they might steal from and/or kill you. I'm sure most of them are harmless and everything would be fine. But there are those crazies out there who would do you harm and not think twice about how wrong it is to hurt someone who was being helpful.
