I made bread.

i made bread the night before last. this may seem like a minor thing but I've never done it before from scratch. i've bought dough many times and baked it up but to do it from the very start with the yeast and the flour was pretty cool. it was so yummy and it made the house smell incredibly good.

Years ago someone bought me a bread maker, which I used to use nonstop to make fresh bread from scratch (well, technically). I haven't used it in ages but really should. I love that bread smell in the house. Mmmmm... Problem is you have to put it in plastic right away, even then it doesn't last very long.

my mom has a bread maker but i never really liked the bread she made in it. it always seemed too hard, and the crust was aways too thick to eat. for that reason i never wanted to get one but i probably shouldn't judge bread makers strictly on what my mother made.

it could be the recipe or the mineral content of the water up there. You can sometimes get lucky and find the previous year's model on clearance. different recipes have different crusts. My folks have one and have had pretty good results
