I've been reading people's journals and I realized that I miss people that I knew in high school. Granted, I left all friends behind BEFORE school ended (we "went our separate ways" so to speak), but there were people that I didn't necessarily hang out with that make me wish social circles and shyness didn't exist. Not sure if I'm making sense here ( Read more... )

Just to offer a differing opinion, the fact that there are MANY people that really don't care here actually makes me want to excel more. ^^ To me, it's like, if I *can* be the best, I will do whatever it takes to be the best. In AP classes at high school, it was totally impossible for me to have the best score, so I got discouraged and simply did not have the desire to excel, like you feel here. ^^

Be careful with generalizations, though! =) I was invited to spend a weekend at Harvard during my senior year at high school for the Latino overnight (I think I've shown you pictures!). I'm sure I'm not the only one here that considered Harvard. ^^

thanks for your perspective/personal anecdote, but I strongly maintain my opinions :-) Also, I don't remember you telling me that you were a candidate for acceptance into Harvard ... I do hope you get into their Med school though!

You should join an student honors society, like I'm in. :D There's a greek letter one for English, and a bunch of other ones for other departments like sociology. There you'll find people to stimulate you. Also, since you're liberal arts, you should talk to your advisor about the university honors program. It's a really prestigious program that's invitation only, but if it's what you need to excel, I don't see any reason why not to at least find out about it ( ... )
