Title: Listen to My Voice
Pairing: Minseok/Kim Seokmi (OC)
Rating: PG-13
Summary: In which Xiumin was mad because Seokmi's ringtone was not Exo's song.
“Your lovely hyung hasn’t talked to me for three days already.”
“Why?”
Taking out her phone from her shoulder bag, Seokmi quickly pressed something on the phone. It was then those three boys were looking at one another, exchanging unknowing glances when they heard a song from the phone. It was indeed a song from one of the famous groups in South Korea, Big Bang. But then again, those boys couldn’t help but to keep frowning when they heard no further explanation from her.
“What’s with the song? Is it your favorite song?” Chanyeol, the tall guy with wide orbs finally asked. He turned his head to his group member, Jongin, asking for an explanation. But the latter shook his head, telling Chanyeol that he understood nothing. Kyungsoo, who was sitting next to Jongin also shook his head.
Letting out a heavy sigh, Seokmi’s eyes met those blinking eyes. “I know right?” She turned off her phone, putting it back into her bag. “It is indeed my favorite song. You guys know how much I fall in love with Daesung’s voice. But the funny problem we got here is your Xiumin hyung is completely mad at me because I don’t set your group’s song as my ringtone.”
“He did what?” They exclaimed in unison. The tanned guy was already laughing, hitting Kyungsoo’s arm because that was just his eternal favorite habit.
Seokmi nodded her head faintly. “I know right. It’s just ridiculous.”
Since three days ago, Xiumin, Kim Seokmi’s boyfriend had tried his best to stay away from her though it was one of the toughest things to do. However, to Xiumin, being away from his girlfriend wasn’t a good idea. He had been missing her like a crazy person, but he had to keep his pride high. He was too ashamed to apologize since he knew he was wrong, as he blamed her for something that was incredibly ridiculous, but he couldn’t help it. So he had to stay away from Seokmi because he was just ashamed of himself, and Seokmi didn’t know about that matter.
“So, uh, how can we help you?” One of them asked.
Seokmi shrugged. “I don’t know. He’s like a child who keeps stomping his feet around just to get an ice cream. You get what I mean? Your hyung is like that, but in an elder version. Perhaps we can drown him in the sea so that he gets eaten by the hungry sharks or non-vegetarian dolphins or maybe we can desert him in the forest full of lions so that he could learn his lessons-I don’t know. It’s up to you, really. Just give me any suggestion,” Seokmi said, keeping her monotonous expression. Seokmi seemed so irritated by the fact that she couldn’t contact Xiumin too. On top of that, Xiumin didn’t come for the practice that day, as if he knew that Seokmi would come to the practice room just to seek for some help from other members.
The silence became a bit tense, though those boys hardly fought the urge to laugh hearing to Seokmi’s remarks. “Um-maybe you should talk to him? I mean we can call him over here, pretending that we don’t know you are here. So when you meet him, maybe you might want to talk over it in a calmer way?” Kyungsoo suggested.
Seokmi thought about it. “I don’t know, just call him here. I swear I won’t kill him when I see him.”
There it was. She was extremely annoyed. Chanyeol and Jongin looked so restless. They hastily stood up, searching for their phones to contact their Xiumin hyung. Seokmi on the other hand, was resting idly in her seat as if nothing happened. Later then, whispers of ‘Hyung, you should come here now, everyone is here’ and ‘Junmyeon hyung is angry right now’ were heard across the empty room. The truth was, there was no Junmyeon hyung hanging around and scolding the boys and nobody was there but four of them in the practice room. Kyungsoo tried not to laugh when he saw the frightened look of those misfits who kept glancing at Seokmi’s direction.
“He’ll come over in another-maybe fifteen minutes?” Chanyeol glanced over his watch when Jongin had finished talking to Xiumin. He looked at Jongin for confirmation. Jongin nodded his head, confirming Chanyeol’s words. “So, yeah. Fifteen minutes.”
“We-we’ll just wait outside if you need us,” Jongin stammered when he strode closer. Kyungsoo wanted to stand up from his seat, intending to leave the room too but Seokmi quickly grabbed his arm.
“No,” Seokmi retorted. “I want all of you to stay.”
“B-but-”
“Stay,” she firmly stated.
“Kyungsoo hyung, what should we do-” Jongin elbowed Kyungsoo’s arm.
“You know what, I have a nice idea for you, noona,” Chanyeol grinned ear to ear. His eyes twitched in excitement because he just knew what to do.
“What is it?” Seokmi asked interestingly.
“I can tell you, but like we said just now, we’ll have to go out so that we won’t be a bother to you-”
“No, stay.”
The boys had no choice.
When the torturous wait had finally come to its end, it was then their gazes shot to the door, and there Xiumin was, panting and busily catching for his breaths. He didn’t notice Seokmi’s presence the moment he entered the room, because he was too busy reading the frightened expression on the boys’ faces.
“Where’s Junmyeon?” Xiumin asked, eyes staring unknowingly into Chanyeol’s.
Chanyeol didn’t move a bit from his seat. He was literally frozen in his seat, but his eyes were not. He kept moving his wide orbs to the right side, right at where Seokmi was sitting. When Xiumin turned his head to the appointed direction, it was when he almost screamed in surprise.
“What are you doing here!?” Xiumin yelled. It was because he was extremely shocked.
“Hello dear.” Seokmi reclined in her seat comfortably. She smiled when she noticed the awkwardness in Xiumin’s face.
Xiumin’s eyes widened. “D-don’t dear me in front of these boys,” he stammered a bit.
It was one of the things Xiumin hated to hear coming from Seokmi. He loved it when Seokmi called him ‘dear’, but not in front of those misfits. Xiumin’s cheeks flushed in red. Chanyeol and Jongin were secretly giggling, but when Kyungsoo shrugged their shoulders off, they had to stay in silence.
“Why not? I haven’t had the chance to call you like that for three days already. Why? Do you want me to call Yifan ‘dear’ instead? Or maybe not. Baby sounds cuter.”
Xiumin sensed the sarcasm in her remarks. But he gave no answer in return. He was a bit embarrassed to be honest. When he shifted his gaze towards the boys, they were actually giggling to death, including Do Kyungsoo.
Xiumin heaved a heavy sigh and straightly walked towards the open door, but then he was stopped by Kyungsoo, who was pulling his arm gently.
“Hyung,” Kyungsoo said.
Xiumin turned around. “What?”
Kyungsoo looked at Seokmi. Seokmi returned the gaze, but in such a relax way than before. Perhaps she had already calmed down. “We’re sorry noona, we’ll just leave this room,” Kyungsoo said apologetically while pulling Jongin and Chanyeol’s arms to leave the place. They shut the door closed behind them, leaving Xiumin and Seokmi in an awkward silence now.
The room was then free from any distraction. The only distraction Xiumin had was Seokmi, who was throwing a playful glance at him.
“So-” Seokmi smiled when the boys had left the room. “When are you going to talk to me?” She was sitting still in her seat, not even bothered to stand closer to Xiumin.
“What do you think am I doing right now? Am I swimming?” Xiumin snapped. He folded his arms against his chest, feeling a bit annoyed with the question.
“I never thought our mind would click so well. I was just thinking of drowning you into the sea since you are swimming right-”
“You just what?” Xiumin asked in disbelief.
“You heard me.”
“I should be the one who said that.”
Seokmi laughed dramatically. “There, there. That’s so cute of you, dear.”
“Stop calling me with that word.”
“But the boys aren’t around.” A playful smile escaped from her lips.
Xiumin’s eyes were scanning around the room. Sure, they boys weren’t there. But he couldn’t stop being mad at her. The continuous stare Seokmi gave her somehow melt his heart in a way Xiumin couldn’t explain it himself. He liked it when Seokmi was teasing him for being mad. But he held his pride high, because he didn’t want to make a fool out of himself.
“Why didn’t you pick up your call?” Seokmi asked, claiming for an answer from him.
Xiumin shrugged. “The battery is dead.”
“Let me see it,” Seokmi eventually got up from her seat, making a few steps closer to Xiumin. Xiumin backed off a bit, but when Seokmi casually had her hands in Xiumin’s pocket, Xiumin couldn’t do anything. Seokmi had already held it before Xiumin could retort.
“Yah-”
“Quiet, Xiumin. The phone is still breathing. I know you’re going to lie,” Seokmi said.
“Breathing? What even-”
“Quiet.”
She then entered the passcode in Xiumin’s phone, which was actually the date of Seokmi’s birthday because Xiumin had insisted on putting it so that the boys wouldn’t have a peek over his phone. When Seokmi had finally opened the phone, she quickly dialed some numbers. Xiumin tilted his head a bit to see who she was calling for. It was indeed Seokmi’s number.
Xiumin gave her a weird look. “Why are you dialing your number?”
“I forgot where I had put it earlier. Maybe Chanyeol lost it after he had played Angry Birds in my phone,” she casually answered.
Xiumin didn’t respond. It was later then both of them heard a familiar, very familiar ringtone indeed, reverberating across the empty practice room.
“This is-” Xiumin halted.
It was EXO’s song, The Star.
They exchanged glances and Xiumin couldn’t help but to grin widely, knowing that Seokmi just did it purposely to let him know that she had changed her ringtone to their group’s song. Seokmi on the other hand, kept her face expressionless.
“Satisfied?” Seokmi then scoffed, but when she was pulled closer to his arm, Seokmi couldn’t stop smiling.
“I love you, Seokmi.”
“Stop being jealous of Daesung okay? He doesn’t even know me,” Seokmi teased him. Xiumin shot a glare at her, but then he smiled, feeling a bit embarrassed.
“I know, but I want you to listen to my song, because the lyrics tell you what I feel. I-I couldn’t express it in my own way since I’m not a romantic boyfriend for you. So I deliver my feelings through my song. I hope you understand.” Xiumin was obviously blushing, because he himself couldn’t believe he just uttered those words. He patted Seokmi’s head gently, earning a sweet chuckle from her.
Seokmi smiled. “I know it, you fool. I love you too.”
