Oil me up

Jun 02, 2010 22:45

So I hear they’re now asking James Cameron the movie director to help fix the oil spill problem.  I think they’re now officially clueless about how to fix this.  Seriously, a movie director?  There’s no blue screen here.  Special effects and sh-tty story telling isn’t going to fix this!  And then I heard tonight that Kevin Costner is getting into ( Read more... )

OR it could bust the hole wide open and make the gusher hundreds of times bigger?

both the feckless government and BP admit that they have no clue whatsoever how to plug up that hole or how to clean up the oil. We’re screwed, but at least this way we can prepare ourselves mentallyWell, I think we can do that anyway ( ... )

There are only a handful of subs in the world that can go to depths of one mile. James Cameron owns a fleet of them. He has done extensive filming at depths of up to 2 miles. One of the areas he wants to help is in monitoring the leak. BP just turned his offer down. I suspect BP is afraid James Cameron may film evidence that can be used against BP.

My idea is to build a giant condom and insert the leaky pipe inside it.

I've heard others express my bomb idea (all AFTER I said it, the copycats) but the Admiral who is the National Incident Commander is against it.

I'm not surprised that BP would oppose additional video evidence of the leak, but they've already got a camera on it 24x7, so how much worse could the additional video make them look?

Wes, I'm all for reducing our dependence on OPEC, but I don't think the economics are there for alternative energy. How about instead we just drill for the oil we know we have, on land, where spills aren't an issue.

Regarding the condom idea... wouldn't it fill up?

Aren't there something like 3 leaks. BP only shows one of the leaks. They also have multiple cameras on it from different angles but they only show one at a time. If the leak looks worse from a certain angle than maybe BP will change the angle, or zoom in or out. Also, how do we know that BP is preserving the video from all of the cameras. I just don't trust BP. Plus the cameras that James Cameron uses are movie quality.
