Notes: I wrote this today, riding the train on the way to the Broadway Flea Market. Not Beta’d, so there may be errors. It was really early. My first try at Glitch. Hope you enjoy! =)
The dark sky was pouring down torrents of chilly rain. Glitch’s coat was soaked through and he was shaking like the leaves on the trees,
“Nice weather, thank you.” He said a little sourly as he huddled under a tree and pulled his coat tighter around himself. He’d hoped the tree would provide him some shelter, but the water still dripped thickly through the leaves.
“Budge over, would you?” He pushed at one of the tree’s large roots so that he could get closer to the trunk. This can’t be good for my zipper! He thought, not expecting the sudden shove the tree gave him, tumbling him back into the open. He landed with a soft “oof!” and glared over his shoulder at the tree.
“Oh, real nice!” He called crossly.
Pushing himself back to his feet, Glitch squinted through the downpour for any other possible shelters. Seeing nothing, he started to wander, feeling sure that things must improve, he just needed to be patient and keep his eyes peeled. He knew he’d been through worse.
“You survived getting your cranium cracked open, didn’t you?” Even that memory was difficult to grasp.
So he wandered, which was normal for Glitch, though he much preferred to wander in the dry. Finally his eyes lit upon an outcropping of rock that he could huddle under and wait out the storm- maybe even get a little shuteye!
He dashed through the rain, slipping and sliding on the wet ground, and soon he was ducking under the stony overhang.
Looking back the way he came, Glitch grinned triumphantly out at the rain. Settling down, he watched the rain fall for a little while, but night was setting in quickly and he was tired. So without any more though, he curled up on the dryer ground and slipped off into dreamless sleep.
“’m sleeping…” Glitch mumbled to the birds whose chirping and squawking had woken him. After a long, resistant moment, he slowly opened his eyes and sat up. Yellow rays of sunlight were filtering warmly down through the trees. They seemed to glitter over the dew drops so the forest shone like something out of a childrens story.
Glitch couldn’t help but smile as he looked at the picturesque scene. Only one thing bothered him.
“Why am I all wet…?”
