Alice/Tin Man crossover thoughts

Hi there folks.
Not sure if I should post this here.

Saw the Alice mini series on SciFi (no I will not spell it the new way)
And of course came up with crossover thoughts for Tin Man.

Ahamo had a sister before he crossed over. This sister got married and had a daughter named Alice ( Read more... )

Any idea what martial art it is that Alice is using? I don't think they ever mention it by name, they just say she's a black belt and an instructor.
It looks to me like jujitsu or judo, but I'm not sure.

..because I think what the real question we should be asking here is:
Who would win in a mixed martial arts battle, Alice or Glitch?

I think that Alice has an advantage in that she is using both halves of her brain, so she has instinct and knowledge whereas Glitch doesn't have conscious access to his memories so he might well not remember how to do a certain technique at a vital moment. He does have the advantage of a longer reach, however, and as he relies on punches and kicks rather than grappling he might be able to take her down if he can keep her from getting in close.

The question of who would win aside, in a weird way I think I kind of 'ship them now...

You know, after reading what you've said I think I'm swinging toward a win for Glitch.

I think we should assume Alice has the skills we are told about rather than what the actress portrays on screen, because how many actresses are actually blackbelts in jujitsu ( ... )

Excellent points about the different contexts in which Alice and Glitch learned to fight - that would definitely explain the finishing-off thing.

I showed clips of Tin Man for a martial arts panel at a fanfic convention, and the other two gals on the panel, who both studied taekwondo (I studied ninjutsu) identified several distinct taekwondo kicks that he did. So I don't know if what Glitch did was strictly TKD, or some OZian form that incorporates the strengths of various styles. And off the top of my head, I can't remember if TKD includes much grappling or not.

lot of guys seem to consider it appropriate to "go easy on the girls"

Tru dat! Which can make it really hard to train properly. And I could see Glitch being all chivalrous in such a situation.

I wonder whether he would feel guilty about hitting someone physically smaller than he is, even leaving aside the point of her gender, at least until he realised she knows how to handle herself! That transition on Glitch's part would be great to read in a story, wouldn't it? Like, ( ... )

Just wanted to throw in that I refuse to spell SciFi the new way, too. It's ridiculous.

i refuse to spell it right either... and apparently the States is the only place the spelling has changed... all its international channels have kept the old spelling.

The Sorceress funded the Red Queen's Casino, in return the Red Queen had Vapors made especially for her.

I like this one - it actually makes a lot of sense!
