I am from Colorado Spring, Colorado. Located hereare both Ted Haggert's New Life Church and Dr. Dobson's Focus on the Family. Both are Christian organizations that openly condemn homosexuality. I'm straight. However, I have numerous gay friends. I love them all equally or more as my straight friends, without ever feeling the pressure to be gay ( Read more... )

Hey! Well, far be it from me to get uber political with my students, but YOU GO GIRL! I'm right there with you. Love the prom story--although I didn't bring a girl to prom, I was the girl prom date of oh 2 or 3 gay men. Boy did we tear up the dance floor. :) It's so amazing that you are so open-minded especially considering your background. So many people just nod along with whatever they are told and don't question things for themselves.

Of course, it's not surprising to me that you're a free thinker, but it's certainly something to be proud of! Have you seen the challenges to the domestic partner benefits here on campus? The school is actually fighting in the courts to maintain the domestic partner benefits they established just a few years ago. It may be something you'd like to get involved in here and really make a difference. :)

See ya Tuesday!

I've been sitting down in the basement of my dorm doing homework for hours. A guy from my dorm who is gay and a friend of his were down here talking and working on homework. I wasn't trying to eavesdrop, but they were talking kind of loudly and the issue of their sexuality did come up briefly. Not twenty minutes later the basement is bombarded by a boisterous group of girls who exchange pleasentries before their meeting starts. "Today we're talking about homosexuality." Interesting. "I've got a few verses here." Here we go. I tried to focus on homework over the next half hour as they droned on about "choice" and "it's ok to be gay as long as you know that it's wrong and are trying to change." I try not to be judgmental, even though it all comes off as just too ignorant. I couldn't stand the irony, and kept wondering what the guys in the corner thought of the large group. They're entitled to their opinion, just keep it to themselves. Keep it the hell away from my constitution.
