Tomato?

Sep 26, 2005 14:54

I keep getting emails from one of my supervisors saying, "lets talk about this tomato" or "I'll be in the office tomato" -- lots of use of the word "tomato." Is this some sort of hip new slang the kids are using, or do you think she's trying to be funny? She's not really the "funny" type.

Maybe she misspells tomorrow and spellcheck autocorrects it for her?

I did have a neighbor in my performing arts dorm in college who tried to insert the word banana into every essay he wrote for a freshman writing seminar including the phrase (which never caught on) "the banana of existence".

That's what it was. I finally emailed her back and said, "Tomato?" and she said she'd turned on the auto-spellcheck thing this a.m. -- I'm hoping she turned it off now ;)

I'll have to agree. It sounds like she lets her spellchecker do her proofreading for her. And possibly has a problem with the word 'tomorrow.' I consider myself a fairly intelligent person, and spelling is one of my pet peeves, but there are some words that I just canNOT spell without a dictionary.

I can't think of any right now, but really, there are...

That's exactly what she's doing -- it's an auto-spellchecker. She just sent me an email saying that I should call a few of the State Pucks and it took me a minute to realize she must have written "state PUCs" (Public Utility Commissions) and had that corrected for her.

Methinks she needs to turn the spellchecker off.

I have trouble with vacuum for some reason. I want to stick an extra "c" in there.

Same here! I think it's the two U's that throw everyone off.

Maybe she's like a smurf, but she lives in a tomato patch in little hollowed out tomatoes. She uses tomato magic to grow everyday and go to work to provide for the other tomatoes.

This is clearly the most likely response suggested so far. All of that spellchecker stuff is clearly bullshit.

Hang on, little tomato!

It's actually a pretty good album.

Amazon says that people who buy that CD also buy "Jazz A Saint-Germain," which I really enjoy (despite its being a bit silly at times). Are they at all similar?

Judging from a couple of Amazon samples, not really. Similar mood, but noisier and less jazzy. They're from Portland!

Woo! Portland!

What's the big bookstore in Portland? Powell's or something? A friend of mine was just there and brought me a postcard. The end. Good story, huh?
