This is, well. I have about three pages of backstory for all my characters for my Big Bang. A lot of it wasn't used, because there really wasn't a point to it in the story. There's a lot of Jared stuff. In the end, a lot of my Big Bang ended up being a story about Jensen, which kind of surprises me but.

So uh, anyway! Have some Jared backstory! This is just for my Big Bang filter; I'll probably unlock it once I post my Big Bang. This is probably a little pointless, but oh well!

Jared comes out to his parents two weeks before he leaves for college.

He thinks, beforehand, that if the shit really hits the fan, he'll only have two weeks to get through before he'll be halfway across the country and they won't have to deal with it till Christmas. By then, they'll have missed him so much that the whole gay thing won't be a big deal. Or so he hopes.

Of course, it could maybe not be too bad. He's not really sure.

It's still Texas, but they don't live in the boonies, and his parents have always been pretty laid back. His mom is one of the most popular teachers at school, and he has friends who have gone to talk to her after school, when they can't talk to their parents. And his dad's brother got divorced and came out when Jared was really young, and his dad never really freaked out about it. So. Jared hopes, maybe, it'll be ok. He knows it's different when it's your kid, but. It could be alright.

Hopefully.

Two weeks later, Jared's standing in the middle of his tiny dorm room, the one he's supposed to share with another person. Jared hopes he ends up with a tiny roommate, because he barely fits in the room as it is, and all his crap is still out in his mom's car. He turns around the room, lets out a slow breath, taking everything in. It's stiflingly hot, the city sweltering in late August heat, but Jared feels right at home. He can't wait to walk around Boston, take in the sights and the history of the city, so completely different from everything he's grown up with.

His dad drops a box on the floor with an oomph, and Jared turns around.

"If you think I'm dragging all your stuff up by myself, you're crazy." His dad pushes him out the door, but he's grinning and looking fond, and Jared just smiles back and follows him downstairs to the car.

He has dinner later, with his parents and his new roommate, some loudmouthed kid from California. The guy spends half the dinner ranting about the upcoming Congressional elections and his internship with a campaign over the summer, which turned out to be the most unglamorous job ever. Jared's trying not to roll his eyes, and he's considering asking for a roommate switch.

Later on, after his parents have headed back to the hotel, Chad (Jared's sure the guy is about thirty seconds from joining a frat) drags him out to a party and the next morning Jared's hungover and exhausted when he sees his parents off. Chad doesn't even wake up, just snores through Jared's parents making sure everything is all set before they leave. Jared's momma looks teary-eyed when she hugs him goodbye, and his dad whispers what he's proud, and Jared waves at them as they drive off.

Jared meets Todd three weeks later. Jared finally gets the courage to go to the GLBT meeting on campus, after Chad caught him making out with another guy at a party. Chad looked awkward and a little uncomfortable, and avoided Jared for three days before asking, "I guess you're into dick then?" Jared had nodded, thinking how just a few weeks ago, he was thinking about switching rooms, and now he's pretty sure Chad's the one thinking about it and well. He's not sure anyone else would put up with Chad.

"Alright then. Just don't try to fuck me or anything." Jared rolled his eyes and threw a pen at Chad.

"Please, I have some standards." Chad flipped him off, but the air was cleared and Jared was grateful.

But when he meets Todd, it's not what he's expecting. Jared's usually outgoing, can talk to anyone in the room, but sitting here, he's not sure if he's ready to jump in and make friends. He's had to hide who he was for so long, it's a little unsettling to be sitting in a room talking about being gay and not being afraid who might find out you were there. But Todd, he just walks up to Jared after the meeting, introduces himself, and invites Jared out for coffee. He's only a few inches shorter than Jared, with dark hair and gorgeous eyes, and Jared's kind of smitten with him already. Todd's pre-med, two years older than Jared, and the stubble on his face scratches Jared when they kiss.

Even Chad likes him. He comes back from class early, the dorm room door banging open while Jared and Todd made out in Jared's bed, Jared pressing Todd into the mattress, Todd's hands in his hair. Jared almost fell off the bed, and Todd just started laughing.

"Jesus Padalecki, warn a guy! Fuck!" Chad throws his bag on his bed, but he doesn't look that pissed or too grossed out, maybe kind of proud.

Todd invites them both to a party that night, but Jared only spends about an hour actually drinking and socializing before Todd drags him off to his room and sucks him off. Jared wakes up the next morning hungover and achy, but he can feel the weight of Todd behind him and smiles before drifting back to sleep.

Two years later, Jared's sharing a shitty apartment with Chad in the city. When he's not locked up in the library writing papers, Jared's on a bus to New Hampshire to help out with the campaigns that year, or sleeping at Todd's place, watching shitty movies and making out. Jared's got LSAT books piled up in his room next to his text books, and he's put away enough money to take a prep course next year.

Back in his mind, he knows Todd's going to break up with him. It's been good, the last two years. But Todd's going to California in the fall, getting the best scholarships to go to school out there, not in Boston. Jared doesn't want it to end, but he knows deep down that this isn't it for him. They have fun, the sex is hot, but it's almost habit, their relationship. He loves Todd, but sometimes, he thinks he just stays with him because Jared doesn't want to be alone.

They don't go anywhere special for Spring Break that year. Jared's got term papers to work on, and Todd's studying all the time, so Jared spends the week in Todd's apartment, spending most of his time taking notes and outlining his papers. He stands out on Todd's balcony at the end of the week, looking out at the city when Todd walks over, hands shoved into his pockets.

"Jared..." Todd bits at his bottom lip, looking kind of sad, and Jared just reaches out and cups his jaw.

"Yea, I know."

They kiss goodbye one last time, and Jared gets back to his apartment the same time Chad does. Chad's sunburned from spending his spring break on the beach, and he takes one look at Jared sitting on the couch, a box at his feet, and just says, "Motherfucker.", and gets Jared drunk.

Years later, Jared's still glad Todd was his first. Todd was perfect on paper, and even if the spark wasn't there, he helped Jared grow up a lot, helped him figure out what he wanted to do. Jared's going to law school in the fall, with Chad of all people (who is the only person Jared knows who can drink his weight in beer the night before and walk into a final the next morning and ace it). Chad has plans, big plans, and Jared. He's spent four years studying, volunteering for campaigns, organizing protests on campus, watching too much CNN and spending too many nights sitting up and debating, and he knows this is what he wants.
