Oh so good, painful and poignant - this is all in spike's POV (and his inability to answer is damnably good here) but HER pain, anger and hurt is just burning here. one of my big criteria for fanfic is "can I imagine the original actors saying these lines, doing these actions?" I could very very clearly see SMG's tearing up (one of Buffy's "I can barely hold back the flood of my emotions but I'm not going to cry now DAMNIT, I won't" moments. *point to icon* Oh, Buffy. )
