I was a little nervous about how you’ll take it because we’ve never met face to face before, and you might find this creepy and weird, and you probably have many other creatures begging at your feet to pay attention to them anyway,” Akanishi babbles, words rushing past those pale, pink lips in a relieved breath. “But I’ve seen you numerous times near the White Plains, relaxed and just looking around, and in the Blue Laguna floating lazily, and twice you came for a meeting with King Aiba and you’re so composed every time, so different from what you’re in your Palace Gardens. And you lick your lips when you’re anxious but you don’t notice it, and bite your lower lip when you’re wandering the Seaweed Rows, deep in thought, and you’re gorgeous. I just really wanted you to notice me,” he says, eyes locking with Kame’s, earnest and hopeful, a hint of desperation hiding in the corners.

Kame prays he doesn’t look as confused as he feels. Akanishi’s lengthy monologue doesn’t make any sense, and Kame slowly starts to freak out over the

“You mean, what’s wrong with hunting down and tranquilizing barely-of-age turtles near the Turtle Kingdom’s borders, putting the turtles into a richly decorated box like they’re your fancy trophies, and then sending the whole thing back to the Turtle King as a gift?”

“Yes?”

“It’s the most insulting present I’ve ever got,” Kame hisses between clenched teeth, his rage slowly, but surely awakening. “It’s the most insulting thing anyone has ever given to me, period.”

“It’s never meant to be an insult,” Akanishi says helplessly. His gaze shifts from Kame’s face to his right shoulder while he seems to debate over something, then takes a deep breath and continues. “It’s a courting present.”

Kame’s heart stops, the anger freezing in his blood and clogging his veins as he tries to wrap his mind around what Akanishi just said.

“A what?” he manages to wheeze out after opening his mouth a few times

Maybe, the ancient turtle has seen weirder things in his life than war declarations turning into marriage proposals. (He guesses that the war declaration is null and void by this point

There are really no words to express how much I love this, and what you've done with this prompt and being all creative about it. Loved the references to other JE members (Tegoshi as a seahorse and Junno as a puffer fish akjdgjdfg) and the snark, also the random details e.g. Forty Great Kingdoms XD

Jin's rambly confession was SO CUTE and Kame was so confused. It was adorable. I loved it, thank you for writing it ♥
