When Kame arrives, the Council is throwing a fit - which is rather impressive, considering that not much can shake the members up in their life anymore. (And even if something does, it takes them literally ages to decide what to do about it.)

Now it takes them five minutes to notice he’s back and another five to get them to not talk at the same time. They’re so distressed that they don’t even notice the shark king looming in the back, which comes as a relief because Kame really doesn’t want to deal with the panic over that above everything else.

He plops down onto his throne and ignores the urge to fidget already. The thing is huge, white, and marble, its arm- and backrest decorated with various seashells and shiny pebbles. It’s very beautiful, awe-inspiring, and probably the most uncomfortable furniture in his whole goddamn kingdom. He wanted to get a new, cushioned one with dark green plush carpeting to match the curtains in the room, but even the idea left his advisor so horrified that he quickly gave up on this plan

“Perhaps we should because we are dealing with octopuses.”

“No, it would be unwise,” Kame shakes his head, frowning a little. “We’re not even sure that it’s really King Akanishi behind the disappearances. I’m certain it’s got nothing to do with King Ueda and the medusas, but we can’t dismiss the fact that the attacker, or maybe even attackers, had to be on their territory for the hunt. And even though squid ink is the trademark of an octopus hunt, octopuses aren’t the only ones using it.”

“But-“

“No,” Kame emphasizes one last time. “If it’s not them, we don’t want to make them angry by our accusations. I think we can all agree on that
