[ it shouldn't be this hard. he's a soldier. he's seen dead bodies. he's seen dismemberments, decapitations, and brutal slayings. granted, only twice. and never, never by his own hand. shuri was not a noble soul. he didn't believe all people were equal, not when a lifetime of lessons told him that slaves were slaves and servants were servants. he didn't believe that peace truimphed over war, because barsburg was a warring nation. war was a fact of life. conquering was something that was simply done
but he'd never done it himself. he'd never experienced it himself. he'd never seen something done by his own hand resulting in the death of someone else. he'd never had to wonder, to dwell, on who the person he had killed was. did they have parents that loved them? friends? wealth? did they revive like everyone else did
( ... )
[Konatsu never had the problems with death that Shuri does. The first time he'd ended someone's life he'd been a little ill, a little shaken up, but he's been acting in service to Hyuuga. For Konatsu's single-minded sense of duty, that was more than enough to curb a good deal of the trauma he felt over it. The next time it had been easier, and the next even easier, and now dealing out death -- in the middle of war, at least, because he's not about to test his tolerance in other fields -- is a fairly simple matter for him: he sets out, commits the deed, and once his mission is over he pays his respects to the dead.]
[But he's not inhumane, and he can understand why someone would all but completely lose their mind at the sight of another human's death -- especially a spoiled boy like Shuri. He's not without a degree of sympathy, either -- but mostly he goes to the other teenager's side out of duty. It's his responsibility to look after the only other Black Hawk present.]
[So he arrives, tea in hand an preparation instructions in mind

[ he lifts his head slowly at the sound of the knock, rubbing the palms of his hands over his eyes. For a minute he forgets where he is, dazedly glancing around the room once his thoughts move from the battlefield to the source of the knock. the sleep deprivation is not helping is already poor condition. the blonde vaguely remembers switching from his house to the apartment, but not in any detail. it felt like he had simply sat up in his bed and then ended up in this one. he was positive he'd talked to konatsu - or, konatsu had talked to him. but he couldn't remember any of the conversation.
he felt like he was going crazy. no, he was sure he had to be going crazy, after he thought it was snowing in the bedroom. one hundred and fourty four hours without sleep can do weird and awful things to a person
( ... )
[A single glance at Shuri tells Konatsu that the boy is in even worse shape then before, and he gives him a single disapproving once-over before he gestures towards the bed.] Get back in bed. I'll be back in a moment.
[And, barring any interruptions, Konatsu is going to turn, leave, prepare the tea, and return to Shuri's room a moment later.]
