Went to see Star Wars last night and
wasn't that impressed. It was a very flabby and middle filmish and there were lots of moments when I thought "oh, that's it" and then it carried on. It also made very little sense and had quite a lot of plot holes - a bit more talking between the protagonists could have made the whole thing quite a lot more effective. Still, there were some interesting ideas there, particularly the idea that heroics is no substitute for thinking it through and I liked the way that they attempted to draw parallels between different characters. It was OK as an experience, but it was no Thor: Ragnarok, which I suspect is a consequence of that the fact that it was made by a a standard white guy director attempting to be thoughtful about this stuff, rather than someone who's rather more outside privileged narratives.
