Sorry about the lack of posting in the last month, I just noticed how long it had been! The weather has been warming up and getting rainy at times as well - it's been spring here since February. Our nontraditional Valentine's Day celebration meant taking an extra-long hawking break in the middle of the day. I was hoping to scare up some rabbits in this new field, as it is pretty big and fairly close to our usual rabbit spot. 2/10: 408 g. I got back from the conference and picked Pele up at Heath's place, and took her out to fly shortly after. She uses the same "word" for Heath as she does for my roommate. It's like the word for people she recognizes but is not comfortable with entirely, kind of a quiet little "kwak-kwak" like her louder duck-like alarm call. Apparently ( Read more... )

1/27: 400 g. We went back to the bunny field and worked for about two hours trying to get one, but she couldn't seem to catch up to them, despite running across 5 in those couple hours. I got back on Friday, as I had said I would, and went to pick my bird up from Heath's place. She was remarkably okay with this. I'm so glad my fears of her forgetting me over the course of the week were unnecessary! The next day she was ready to go, right on schedule, so I took her out to Frog Pond 3, our usual spot.
