Outdated term?!

There was an incident at my library the other day.  Tempers are easily set off since it is finals here and two students were yelling obsenities at each other.  I had to notify the campus cops before punches were thrown.  I called and told the officer who answered that we needed them to come to the library as 2 students were about to "come to blows

I didn't think "Come to blows" was an outdated term, either! Maybe I'm the one (horrors!) who's outdated?

Fisticuffs ... now that sounds more outdated than "Come to blows.."

That is just so unbelievable how they keep interpreting words, e.g.
I left a comment on a piece of ff
on ff.net:
'Oh don't be so hard on him'

and guess what?
TPTB deleted it
They assumed incorrectly that I was using some sort of sexual
connotation when in fact I meant
'don't be so tough on him'
