For the last 2 months I have been helping a visiting scholar from Puerto Rico, who has been going to school in Madrid, practice her English. She has an accent but is not hard to understand. She is a wonderful person…kind and funny.

It is why we used phonetics when I taught it in Turkey.
All of those words that sound same, have different meanings, e.g. two, to, and too

Homophones, oh God. OH GOD! As someone who isn't a native speaker of English I can tell you that those will probably be always my biggest nemesis, even though I've been practicing English for almost 20 years now. But rest assured, every language becomes difficult once you have to explain it to someone else ;)
