Pairing: KaiBaek
Summary:
Year 2552. Planet Reach was supposed to be a stronghold against the Covenant Empire. Baekhyun did not want to go through hell again but it looks like the universe is breaking its promise.

The city of New Alexandria is the heart of modern technological advancement in Reach and it houses thousands of humans from different planets. Different United Nations Space Command (UNSC) headquarters and stations are located around the city and is currently the most secured place on the entire planet.
Baekhyun is one of such lucky people who were allowed to live in this city. He is now 25 years old and he works as a simple office assistant in a Telecom company right at the centre of the city.
“Hey Dreamboy! How many times have I told I need my coffee every 8:30 sharp?!”
“This isn’t mine! You got my mail mixed up.”
“Baekhyun, where’s the copy of the documents I gave you yesterday?!”
The continuous bombardment of commands made the petite boy even more confused. Even with a hearing aid, it was hard to keep up with the request of almost a hundred employees on this floor everyday. Despite the harsh treatment, Baekhyun is not willing to give up the job as it is his only source of income.
“Uh…um, here’s your coffee sir… and your mail, ma’am. Sorry for the mix-up.” Baekhyun said as he put a mug on the man’s table and handed a few envelopes to the woman on the other side. He pushed his cart a little bit faster towards the manager’s office and submitted the needed files.
“Hey Baekhyun,” He turned around to see his friend Kyungsoo holding a wrapped sandwich. “Take it easy, ok?”
Do Kyungsoo is Baekhyun’s best friend as well as a fellow survivor from Earth. He was the one who got Baekhyun in the company through tireless nagging but it didn’t come across the head officer well. He assigned Baekhyun as an errand boy even though his skills in finance would’ve put him in a higher position. Up until today, the head officer’s annoyance with him has reached the rest of the workers and picking on him has become the latest trend.
“I’m sorry I put you in this situation.” Kyungsoo said apologetically.
Baekhyun smiled warmly. “It’s not your fault. I wouldn’t want to leech on you forever anyway. Besides, it doesn’t bother me at all.”
His friend gave him a quick hug before returning to his own post. Even though it’s against Kyungsoo’s will, he had agreed to Baekhyun’s request that he should not see each other often. It’s better to be safe than sorry; Baekhyun couldn’t bear to think the same fate happening to his friend.
“Baekhyun-ah, buy me some sandwich at the cafeteria.” Another shout came from one cubicle near the window.
“Coming!”
“Hold on to my hand!”
“I won’t leave you… I promise.”
“You will be alright. You’re safe here.”
After the fall of Earth, the images of everything were still vivid in Baekhyun’s mind; the battles, the ruthless enemies and their almost hopeless survival.
The only thing that was able to function properly at that time was the SPARTANs. They were a team of super-soldiers designated to be the UNSC’s special fighting force. Only they are allowed to don a technologically-advanced combat exoskeleton that enhances a Spartan’s strength, speed, durability and a lot more. Of course, Baekhyun did his research.
He always replayed their heroic act in his mind and completely admired them. As per usual, it has become another source for his co-workers teasing. Since the SPARTANs are highly-trained soldiers, it is very rare to see them around the vicinity of the city and not to mention that information about them is restricted to the public. Usually, the lower-ranked UNSC Army military police are deployed when a problem arises.
Recently, though, he’s been having visions of something similar to the battle on Earth. The SPARTANs were engaged in combat in a place he can’t quite determine yet. But what’s really bothering him is that he didn’t recognize any of the super-soldiers from his dreams. It wasn’t Master Chief, the soldier he truly adores and respects.
Nonetheless, he is basically a laughing stock at work for believing in the existence of these “cyborgs” as they call it but he remains unfazed.
He knows they’re out there and will someday come when Reach needs it.
“…you listening?!”
A smack on his head brought him from his daydream and remembers that he was being scolded.
“I respect the fact that you’re deaf and everything but can you at least do one thing right?” his boss, who goes by the name of SuHo, is yelling at him at the assumption that he broke the photocopying machine.
“I bet he was daydreaming about his Master Chief again.” One employee teased and the petite boy didn’t like the way it came out from his mouth.
Baekhyun gave him a look and contemplated for a while before answering. “He is real! The SPARTANs are.”
He received another smack for not paying attention. “Just get me another one this instant!”
Small updates but at least I'm progressing! Progress is good!
