I always wander back this way hoping to find the same magic that was here in the beginning. Then I immediately feel like an asshole because I realize that the magic came from people actually checking in, writing, and sharing in this place. While I held out from FB and other social media sites for a good while, shaking my fist in the air and ( Read more... )

Ha! I hear you, comrade; but I gave up on the notion of internet "privacy" years ago...basically after my second DefCon appearance. I look forward to sharing all my intimate shit with the United States of Putincorp! ;-P

I've missed your writing.

My life felt a lot less stressful when I gave up on FB. There was just so much that made it difficult for me. I use twitter a lot but more for shouting in the void. So it always comes back around to here.

LJ was always to me, a big folk dance, which took time to learn the steps and partners, but was sooo rewarding. Then - over time - everyone slowly deserted the dancehall.

It seemed everyone couldn't be bothered learning or remembering the steps. Too hard with a smartphone in your hand, much easier to instantly 'like' instead. I'm one of the few people I know - who is not self-employed - that prefers to work at a computer at home, not a tablet, not a laptop, not a phone... For I can dance better with it (even if i'm not as fast or immediate as the quickie social media sites would want me to be...).

I love your writing. And admire your values. Welcome back ;)

Even the last two days have made me happier than the last two years of FB. I missed this place so much. Even though many of us migrated in unison to FB, it wasn't the same sort of congenial genuine interaction that always brings me back here.

Yes, indeed. I couldn't have put it better myself. And that 'like' button has a whole lot to answer for!

I was avoiding LJ for the last couple of years due to some family drama, that resulted in me being trolled, attacked and hacked by a mentally ill sibling. FB is good for short updates but I have missed the lesiurely stroll across the keyboard. I do hope to make it a more regular practice!
Lovely to find you writing here again!
