Oh dear. As a Labour supporter that does not fill me with confidence...

Also, my mother (who is a staunch Conservative) just read that and cannot stop laughing. So thank you for entertaining us!

Sad but true that it bears an alarming resemblance to 'we can save you money on your phone bill, so give me your bank details and I will change your account' sort of cold calling. I have had two things from the Liberals - neither telling me anything about them but both concentrating on rubbishing other parties. In fact I had to deduce that they were from the Liberals, 'Labour' and 'Conservative' figured much more prominently in large letters on the stuff!

I had a similar conversation with our local Tory candidate in the 1997 election. I had lots of questions he kept batting away, and at the end he said "Well, you seem to be a very well informed young lady, and I don't think you are going to be voting for me, are you?" I acknowledged the fact and hung my Labour poster in the window once he'd gone...

Some canvassers are fabulous at the job, others are useless, and sadly parties rarely provide training because they are so grateful to get anyone to knock on doors. Few are *that* persistant though!

Your politicians are way more in touch with the voters than ours though. No one ever knocked on my door.
