Visual Studio 2003 .NET

I received my academic version of Visual Studio via UPS today.

It took over an hour to install, and I STILL hadn't installed everything (like the MSDN help).

But I am impressed... this is one cool tool, and by cool, I mean totally sweet (10 pts).

I have Visual C++ 6 Pro, and this thing blows that away. They really thought out the IDE on this one. Wow. I like how 4 languages are integrated in the whole tool, and how you can still target Win32 if you need to via the C++ compiler.

The academic version I received is the Pro version, with a few extra beels and whistles that somehow enable a teacher to generate projects and stuff for class.

I went to SetFocus again last Friday, and picked up the first book for class, "Intro To C# Programming with Microsoft .NET". There is a test on the entire book (which is official Microsoft Courseware) the first night of class !!! So I started working through the book now that I have Visual Studio.

My new Gateway 675E , which I ordered last wEDnsday, is due to arrive on the 16th. This will be my new main computer, which will give me the freedom to work on the SetFocus course anywhere. If I need to get out of dodge for a weekend, I can now do it, and bring the "desktop replacement" with me.

So when that arrives next week, I'll install the complete Visual Studio suite on there.

VS is a really great tool so far...
