have you approached your boss about that? it seems unfair that they wouldn't even share some of the cost with you... or is there any way to have it covered as 'necessary medical equipment'?

What if you went to your doctor and got a note saying that you need an ergonomic chair?

I'm sure that the company would cover the cost of it, especially if it's not allowing you to perform properly at work.

Sounds reasonable to me.
