APPEARANCE: Flora is a girl of average height with a slender figure. Her face is pleasant, with large, curious eyes, and cheeks that are naturally flushed. Her hair is always tired back with a red ribbon, and her bangs are arranged in a cute swirl at the front of her head. She is always wearing a dress, which is a pink-orange color. It reaches just over her knee, and the rest of her leg is covered with a black boot. Around her waist is a red cloth, and her arms are covered with a white undershirt.
PERSONALITY & HOUSE REQUESTS:
Like many of the characters in the wonderful puzzle land of the Layton games, Flora is inquisitive, adventurous, and full of spirit. She does have many qualities that separate her from the rest of the cast, and a background to prove it.
Flora is a quiet, kind young woman. She was the daughter of a baron, and had the sweetest mother in the world, which she obtained her good nature from. Early on in the first game, we see that Flora is extremely curious about the professor when he originally arrives in St. Mystere. She disguises herself, and travels to the city to follow him and observe what he is like. We also see that she is extremely selfless. When her father’s fortune is presented to her, she chooses to decline the riches, leaving it to the town. At the very end of the first game, we see the bond between Flora and Layton first develop, and Flora is extremely happy to be saved by Layton from her tower-prison, and leaves with him and Luke for a new world of adventure.
In the second game, it’s also shown that Flora can be very naïve and perhaps overly blissful. Directly after being told that she should stay close to Luke and the professor, Flora is distracted by one of the market stands. It is here that Flora is kidnapped by Don Paolo. While she may be older than she looks, having been locked in a tower for most of her life, her knowledge of the world and its evils is very limited. Likewise, in the third game, Future Luke kidnaps her, too, in order to provoke Layton and Luke into following him.
Both the second and third games have evidence that Flora is prone to feelings of loneliness. Having lived in a tower by herself most of her life, it’s really no surprise. Her father had put her there without any company, even with an entire village below. Luke and Layton will often go off on adventures without her, something that doesn’t sit well with her. In the second game, she disguises herself again and follows them onto the train. In the third game, Layton and Luke blatantly abandon her as she makes her hell-sent lunch. She responds by forcedly following the two to the clock shop, and mistakenly being wrapped up in the mess which is Future London.
As a result of the first game, Layton becomes the guardian of Flora. She feels nothing but extreme respect and adoration for him, even though he will often leave her behind (for her own protection, he would argue.) In the third game, when Layton, Luke, and Don Paolo split up from Clive and Flora, Flora seems relatively upset to have to part with Layton. She requests if Luke would trade places with her, that she could be with her guardien. In the second game, as they’re entering Folsense, Flora is holding onto Layton’s sleeve. It’s obvious that she feels a certain need to have him near, as he was the first person to ‘save’ her after being trapped in the tower.
There is no one in the world that Flora respects more than Professor Layton, though their relationship can be somewhat rocky. In the first game, it's Layton who she can credit to saving her. Layton was able to solve all of the puzzles that her father had left behind at his death. He proved to be very brilliant, then, but there's more! When Layton finally arrived at the top of the tower, Don Paolo, the villain of the first game, attacks Flora's sky high home. Layton builds a sky glider, successfully escaping the falling tower, and landing safely in St. Mystere below. What makes it most obvious that Flora is grateful to Layton is her birthmark (which woops, i forgot to mention; explanation to come.) Flora, also the mysterious "Golden apple" that he has been searching for, has a strange birthmark over her heart. When she is happy, it becomes dark and visible. As soon as this is discovered, she throws her arms around Layton, smiling brightly.
However, in the games to follow, Layton becomes a bit more difficult to work with. Flora is prone to feelings of loneliness, as mentioned above. This can be problematic, against Layton's more gentlemanly attitude. Often she is left behind when Luke and Layton go off on adventures. She tails Layton and Luke onto the train in th second game, disguised so that Layton wouldn't get upset with her. When she's discovered, she admits she didn't want to be alone. Layton allows her on the journey, and her excitement returns. She's more than willing to join them on their adventure, eager to take part and help.
This isn't the last time Layton leaves poor Flora behind. Early on in the third game, Flora disappears momentarily to make cucumber sandwiches for Luke and Layton. The two very blatantly abandon her while she's in the kitchen, and she returns, looking very distraught--no doubt she knows she's been left behind. Her next arrival proves that Flora isn't the sort to lie down and give up. She stalks Layton to the clock shop, and there chews both of them out for leaving her behind.
I believe that Flora's ideal household would be Ravenclaw for a number of reasons. The sorting hat's description of the house, in particular, is fitting. Flora is very interested in puzzles, or riddles, in other words. She enjoys doing them, and wants nothing more than to learn to become better at them. Obviously, then, she also enjoys learning, and working with the professor has been her main resource to being the process. Right now she's still but a puzzle novice, but becoming as intelligent as him. She would likely enjoy entering the Ravenclaw common room, being tempted with riddles in order to enter.
If Ravenclaw isn't suitable for her, then Hufflepuff is the absolute next best choice. Flora's top quality is her absolute loyalty to the professor and Luke. They are the two most important people in her life right now. Much of her loyalty comes from her loneliness, no doubt. As she has not always had somebody by her side, maintaining her good friendships is idea.
COMMUTER DETAILS: n/a omg, not with that nose
POSITION: Student!
ABILITIES & POWERS: Flora will... suck at potions. I'll just start with that now. Flora is canonly the absolute worst cook ever. In the end credits, we see her cooking
something that definitely isn't edible, and again putting frosting on a cake with a fish on it. If we were to transfer that over, she would obviously be dangerous. Not only to herself, but to the entire room around her. Love potions would become yandere obsessions, polyjuice potions would turn your skin inside out, or hey. Maybe she just tried to do a simple cough potion and actually re-created a wizardly plague. Who knows! Either case, it will be what she is the absolute worst at.
She will be, however, decent in transfiguration. While she is no master of disguise, in order to travel around St. Mystere, Flora was forced to disguise herself in order to travel around the city. She couldn't help it, she was always locked away in that tower, and wasn't allowed to come down. her disguise was good, however, and was able to effortlessly maneuver around. She does the same again in the second game, though her disguise is much more quickly foiled; she uses it simply to follow Layton and Luke on the train and even upon accidentally pumping into her once, the two were completely unable to recognize her.
WAND:, Flora has a lot more potential than she might lead on to believe, which makes a vine wood excellent for her. At the beginning of the series, Flora seems blissfully unaware of the puzzling world, though she was well protected by it. Upon meeting Layton, though, she is introduced into a new world. It's her own inquisitive nature that convinces her to set out on her own adventure and discover the world. She wishes to improve herself, and find her way in the world. As the game progresses, we see Flora becoming much more independent and capable of puzzling. in fact! In the third game, Flora begins to solve puzzles with Layton and Luke, even with her own cute puzzle solving sequence.
The vine wood, as it is attracted to those of hidden depth, is likely attracted to her hidden determination and devotion to those who she cares about.
Flora's unicorn hair core is for the obvious reason that she is a polite and honorable young girl, who would be very unlikely to be pulled to the dark side. More importantly, though, a unicorn is associated with innocence. As I mentioned in the personality section, Flora can be blissfully unaware of the world around her, and not realize that it has evils.
The length of the wand is average, just sort of 9½ inches. It reflects her own average height. However, it is shortened slightly due to her own insecurities about being left behind, and the fear of loneliness, which is always haunting her. The wand will be bendy, thanks to Flora's ability to adapt to the situation around her, and "go with the flow" so to speak. The wand will help her most with herbology. As a child, she greatly enjoyed gardens, having one in her mansion home.

WRITING SAMPLESFIRST PERSON:
O-oh my; the stairs! ((Flora startles grabbing onto the stone rail. She looks frightened at first, ten lights up.)) I… I’m floating on midair. Is this reality? -Certainly not! There isn’t a single thread holding this up; I can hardly believe it! This must be a magical place.
I’ll be at my first class, soon, too. How exciting. I wonder what sort of magic there is. ((She taps her chin, thoughtfully. Ho-hum…. But she smiles suddenly.))Why, I can’t even begin; there’s so many possibilities that could be out there. I just hope I’ll do good. ((she blushes at the prospect.))
THIRD PERSON:
Flora stumbles through the halls, eyes wide and curious. She can't help herself! It's all so fascinating! The ceilings were so high, and the corridors were so long. She stumbles in her gowns and explores every corner. She could get lost in this place at any moment, but she doesn’t even think on it. She was far too happy.
The rush of students made her eyes flash. Did she know anyone? No, it didn’t look like it, but it was still amazing. Witches and Wizards all around her, a wand held in one hand, her books pressed against her chest with the other. Perhaps, she thought, she would come to know these people.
She smiled! Yes! She should brave and speak to them, naturally. Nearing a group, she readied herself to make new friends.
And failed. Steps away from entering the group to say hello, she blushed. What if they didn’t like her? Oh…. Nevermind! She hurried away. It was too hard! She’ll try again later. Refocusing her mind, she tried to remember what it was she learned in class today. Well… it was her potions course and-
Yes of course!!! That awful man; he was so dreadfully rude. Brand new to magic and she’d already gotten in trouble for not knowing better. She huffed loudly, upset with the dreadful teacher. What was his name again? …Oh, she’d forgotten.
“It was still terrible what he said…” she muttered sadly. No matter, though! She perks up soon as she realizes she had found her way to the entrance to the common room. Giving the password, she slipped in.
“Hey! You’re new!”
“Ah…” she blushes, then smiles at the stranger. ”I am! My name is Flora, and you are?”
