Yuletide!

Oct 25, 2014 23:31

As you can no doubt tell from my LJ, I'm not really fannishly active these days, but I always come back for yuletide. Here are more details on my requests.

I'm generally speaking much more into the happier or more humorous end of the scale than angst or darkness. As I've said in prior letters, basically, no darker than the tone of the source and with the sense of humor of the source is probably a good guideline for what would make me happiest. No central character death or rape, please. Otherwise, I'm really quite flexible. My requests this year are all non-relationship-specific, but I also read both het and slash of varying levels of explicitness quite happily.

If you're looking through my fic to see what I like, I've done Yuletide every year, so there are 11 YT's worth of stories by me in the AO3 archive. Everything else of mine that's linked here in LJ is ancient, really, and probably terrible, and I haven't updated my personal site in years. But what's in the YT archives should give you a decent sampling of my taste. Really, I'd be thrilled to see a story in any of these fandoms, so whichever one you write is fine by me. Have some fun with it, and I'm sure I'll be delighted.

Specifics:

I requested (in alphabetical order) Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Enlisted, the Matthew Swift series, and Twin Peaks. I'm cool with the canon relationships in each of those fandoms, although none of these requests are relationship-based.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine: I got this last year, which normally means I wouldn't ask for it again, but I really love this show. Seeing what new wackiness they've dreamed up this time is one of the highlights of my week. The Captain is a particular favorite of mine, but I didn't specify characters because I'd be happy to see any (or all) members of the team included, maybe in some kind of fun situation like you might see in an episode.

Enlisted: Oh, this show. It breaks my heart that the network murdered it the way they did. I was particularly pleased with the way they managed to balance the funny with heartwarming moments of sincerity. I love the brothers, and Cody, and Perez, and the whole crew. Yuletide is the closest we'll all get to just one more episode, so go have fun with it.

Matthew Swift series by Kate Griffin: I loved the Swift books (and the Sharon books). I requested Swift, because I really enjoy him, but feel free to include anyone else you like. A lot of urban fantasy makes its city environment feel like just set dressing on a stage, but the Swift books embrace London in a way I really like. I like the ways in which it gets integrated into the story, like the train ticket fine print being used as a spell, or the grease monster, or the dustman. I also like the way as the series continues it gets easier to predict when he's going to talk about himself in the third vs. first person. The angels can be a little terrifying, but Swift somehow keeps them from lighting us all on fire just to watch us burn.

Twin Peaks: This is such a great time to be a Twin Peaks fan, and we have a little time left before the Mark Frost book and the new series arrive, in which we can engage in pure speculation about what might have happened in the intervening 25 years. But don't feel like you have to set it post-series if that doesn't float your boat. I love the Log Lady, so she's a must, but you can also include anyone else you want. I used to write slash (mostly Coop/Harry), but romantic relationships are totally optional. I've just found my love for the fandom reawakened by the big news, and I'd love to see some new fic in the fandom.

So there you go. Thanks, currently anonymous author!
