What's the deal with CE? as pete kindly put it, its 2 letters. WHO CARES about to letters. the sentiment is worse i think. Hey guess when the common era started? when jesus was believed to be born? is that any better than saying anno domini? I agree. It's possible for something that starts out with religious meaning to become something other than that. AD is like this I think. As a historian in training (For lack of a better term) when I see BC and AD I actually don't think of it in religious terms (even though I am a catholic) I just think of it as a way to distinuish the time periods. But effectively changing AD to CE PUTS an emphasis on the meaning of both terms, an emphasis that I believe to be unnecessary. The fact that CE was created is a statement against catholosim, because why create it unless making a statement that you would not use a common term for it's religious roots?
