The rope had burned her wrists. Guy's lips were warm as he kissed the red welts, though his eyes held a cold promise for Robin. Marian's skin pricked at the touch, an awareness of how open the forest was settling between her shoulders. She ought to pull away.
"Are you ready to return to the castle?" Concern in Guy's voice was a seductive paradox, a complicated pitfall in their game. But it was familiar, and that was a strange relief.
Marian did not pull away. Robin's ring felt heavy in her pocket.
"Yes," she replied, and realized she meant it.
