A character analysis of Anna, hooked into the visuals from her appearances over S4. This meta-and-picspam got pretty big while I was putting it all together, so this is the 2nd of 3 parts.
It's a good point about what she said she was falling for (sex and chocolate) and the kind of life she actually appears to have led as a human. Was she just saying that to forge a connection to Dean, or was she always "good" because of her angelic self, no matter that she'd fallen?
It's given me a few things to think about anyway. :D
I don't think she was lying to Dean about that, but it is funny. I mean, if she were interested in pure hedonism, her life could have been very different.
So, I feel like it's not about excess or addiction or overindulgence for Anna, just about being human. And while those things are part of it, most of life is about the everyday, I think. The small things.
And maybe this is why she was a journalism major...even though she'd be an observer, like when she was an angel, she would still be closer than when she wasn't human at all. Closer to a range of experience, and with the job of finding the core--the human element--of the story.
It's been a while since I've watched this ep, so I could be remembering it wrong or may have just completely misinterpreted it, but I had always thought that Dean giving Anna up to the angels was actually all part of the ploy. I figured it was just a part of the plan to pull one over on the angels and demons and to get Anna's grace back. Especially after Dean saying to Ruby that it took her long enough to get there.
Then again, I may have been wrong to just assume that. But I kind of would rather think Dean wouldn't have given her up so easily. Not that that was easy, of course. I'm rambling. ;)
Anywho, very interesting thoughts you have! I know next to nothing about the bible and or angel lore, so I love reading info and other people's thoughts on this storyline. And I have the bad tendency to not think too much about Anna, given my 'shippy Dean/Cas tendencies. But she truly is an extremely fascinating character. I hope we see more of her story next season.
I think you're right. I'll revise that when I get home and can think about it. Thanks for pointing it out!
Nothing is easy for them, is it? Poor Winchesters.
And, thanks! I don't know too much about it either, despite years of confirmation classes. Though I've forgotten most of it, pieces have lingered. The Catholic Encyclopedia online has proven to be a broadly useful resource, at least for reminding me of the material.
I think a lot of the recurring characters are well written and I love to look at characters like Anna and Ruby and see how they fit into the whole picture.... It's a sickness. But it's fun. And leads to picspam! :)
Edit: Or, I'll just put in a note of correction during lunch. Thanks, again!
You're welcome! And thanks for giving me something to think about while I'm bored at work. Thinky thoughts about SPN are some of my most favorite kinds of thoughts. ;)
Once again your part 2 analysis of Anna Milton gets me thinking of who she is and all that fun stuff. I love Anna to pieces and I pair her with both Castiel and Dean but, that's just me.
About to read on to part 3 and can't wait to read more.
My shippy little heart has a whole Anna/Cas meta for this scene, even though she's sleeping with Dean. Crazy? Yes! Yes, it is. But I cannot get it out of my brain.
Also, the idea of Anna going all fangirly about Dean never occurred to me, but does make sense, and I especially like the theory that she's somehow trying to 'connect' to her old life through him (or however it was you put it).
I wonder if she knew already what we learned last night--that Dean was supposed to be the vessel for the archangel? I can see how that would make another angel into a fangirl.
