I had to read that twice - I can't believe they want to give away the dog they've had for a decade. That's unreal. :/

After 50 years on this earth i am still amazed by the depths of some peoples ugliness. Just how cold and unfeeling would you have to be?

I am deeply saddened to be of the same genome as this pathetic excuse for a human being.

At first, I was just as pissed as you at this...but then I thought about it, and I can *almost* understand this - because the puppy came from a rescue shelter, they probably are contractually obligated to either keep him, or give him back to the rescue shelter. It sounds like they don't want to do that, because that's where he got the pneumonia in the first place.

So...they give up their 10 year old dog.

Not saying they're innocent, or even good people, but they may not be as evil as it first appears.

I thought about that too, but I think any reasonable person would consider the agreement to give the puppy back to the rescue shelter to be completely null and void (assuming the rescue shelter really is at fault here in the health of the puppy). Ultimately, these people should do what is best for both animals - keeping the 10 year old dog, and finding a new home for the puppy.

I also don't want to criminalize whatever rescue agency she got the puppy from. We have no idea how long the puppy had been there, or how long she had had the puppy before it was diagnosed with pneumonia. I know not all the rescue agencies around here are fantastic, but most of them are at least good enough to not knowingly adopt out a sick animal.

When you adopt a dog, and you pay the adoption fee, you're purchasing the dog. As soon as the transaction is completed, the doctrine of first sale applies, and you have a legal right to transfer possession of your property to another.

She didn't license the dog, she bought it.
