Thoughts on Gay Marriage

That's kind of the point.

In this country, marriages by the State (town hall, etc.) and religious ceremonies are given the same weight. Equally legal, because they require the same paperwork, basically.

The right to marry should be like the right to work, or to vote. It should apply equally to every citizen; not just to those who think like the majority.

So we agree. :) Cool.

right now I love you. Not in the "run away to Conn to marry me" kind of way, but in the "thank you so much for understanding and supporting us" way.

I'm actually off to go stand on a street corner in San Jose, CA so that everyone can have the same right to marry.

Popped over to wish you a happy birthday sweetie, but loved your post.

You are so right, quote one, quote them all, live by one, live by them all if you want to bring in bible quotes.

I liked your bottom line. So true.

Heh-heh.

Whoever made that is brilliant! And thanks for sharing it! :D

I'm likely to add it to my icons, with a request that if anyone knows the source, they let me know. If you don't mind?

Sorry myself for how long it's taken me to reply (and it is me, regardless of the different LJ name).

Some people think they have the right to proclaim what is and isn't 'right' or 'good' because... well, they're assholes. And threatened in some manner (likely because gay people are the last 'minority' it's okay to publically hate and certain groups aren't happy unless they have someone to point at and say "we're better than them!").

Please give your brother, your bestie since HS and their respective partners my best and let them know... there ARE people who DON'T know them who fully support their right to be together, and who hope they're offered that right under the law.

Equal responsibility to the country (government) should mean equal rights! :)

don't know how i missed seeing this post so many years ago, but i've had to cut-n-paste it for the eloquent way you've put the arguments. my darling daughter is 'engaged' (or as much as they can be) to a pre-op female-to-male transexual. there are so many legal issues with that, my son and i have simply accepted that we've got an in-law and suggested they do the official change of name/POA/etc and enjoy their life together. yes, great strides have been made in legalizing marriage for all people BUT... not for either of their home states. texas will drag its feet, and west virginia's no better.

anyways, wanted to say thanks for your stance and sharing it, and to check to see if i'd maybe missed you moving your fanfic elsewhere (Becoming Known = one of the all time favs of spander). since you seem pretty busy with writing, going to go scope that too *bearhug*
