During the holiday pot luck/Secret Santa lunch at work a white, older, male co worker that I'm friendly with sat next to me and smiled as he told me he could say Merry Christmas now. I'm still terrified, but I feel so helpless. SD is a deep red state. Nothing will make these podunk farmers vote anything other than republican, and Trump is proof. People say, "Call your congressmen!" SD congressmen includes Sen. Thune, who will bend over and take it for anyone that will give him more power while making sure he'll get re-elected. Our rep in the House got called out by Boehner for texting when she should have been paying attention to house proceedings and no one cares. Calling them will do literally nothing but take up the time of the person answering the phone. Helpless.

*hugs* I don't know what to say other than that I am terrified as well. I think the best we can do at the moment is keep watch and pay attention to what's happening. We need to be able to somehow hold those in power accountable and the first step I think is to bear witness, if nothing else. Then bring attention to what is happening. I need to go read about what happened during the civil rights, the women's rights, the LGBT movement. I am the furthest from a political activist you can find. I support and donate but I'm not active. I shrink from that kind of attention but I feel that this will be something I should be informed about going forward.
