So, my flash drive died. The one with all my school powerpoints and study guides and syllabi. Some of that is posted or an early version is saved somewhere else or I can recover it from email. Then there are the "cannot be recreated or replaced" things like several unfinished SGA stories, some that are pretty long and close to being finished ( Read more... )

I'm sorry to hear about your misfortune. OUCH. I didn't know flash drives could die. Selfishly, I have been watching and waiting for a posting by you of a new SGA fic...remembering you had mentioned one still in the works. Boo hoo. Is there a chance your laptop or computer saved shadow copies of the works on the c:/ drive or something like that? I'm really sorry you lost so much, including the chunk from our novel. You are smart to get the online backup service even after the fact. I wish you well, and better luck, as you continue writing, and recreate that portion of your novel. You can do it!

I didn't know they could die like that either. I was using the flashdrive because it seems like hard drives crash all the time. I've looked to see if I could find some part of it lurking on the computer anywhere, but I haven't found anything. Of course I don't actually know what I'm doing so no surprise there.

I can't bring myself to go back to the novel right now. Every time I think of that lost chapter I literally want to cry. I had an idea for an SGA story I could do to push myself back into the writing game. I might tackle it if I can get the time.

Thank you - I can use one. It still makes me want to cry. I can't seem to bring myself to work on the book right now. I always start thinking about the hours I spent on that chapter that is gone, gone, gone.
