It sank to the fucking ground.
I don't have a job that I like. I'm convinced that I won't EVER have a job that I remotely enjoy. Just know that even working in the "field" doesn't mean doing what you want to do. Hell, some people work their whole lives to get the opportunity to direct "Good Luck Chuck."
Last week I spent a whole night editing a sea of face saying "Say What???" to the camera. And I cried my eyes out because that's not what humanity is and you can see manufactured expressions of joy on their faces. They are literally told to be happy and to smile and to shout these meaningless phrases. No wonder it all looks so ridiculous - there's no root, no pleasant underfooting in any kind of organic human interaction.
I'm not trying to reassure you. We both need a calming reassurance by some sagely figure. But I have to tell you right now that you shouldn't choose New York because it's not Los Angeles. Because I ain't any happier.

i know... maybe its something that everyone has, but i've always had the urge of "if its not right here, then maybe its better somewhere else." that maybe its my location that's standing in my way. especially because i''m from the greater new york area, i've never actually WANTED to live in los angeles. but its never been an option to not, one day, live in new york. it was just kind of the plan. what i was supposed to do. i wish we had some sagely figure. weren't we supposed to get one in college? ha. i'm so afraid i'm stuck in copywriting-- sure, i'm writing about fashion, but i'm selling it. i'm a glorified, electronic sales girl. its really disheartening to think that you'll never be allowed to write the truth.

Hun, my aunt writes for the Boston Globe and is a freelance editor for some magazine stuff. I don't know if she writes what you want to write, but she writes what SHE wants to write and she loves that.
She's Boston based but has been around for a while and knows A LOT. And she's fab. If you need someone to talk to for advice (aka a sagely figure) do you want me to put you in touch with her? At least to ask some questions? let me know!
