Early breakfast at Leena's, family meeting, followed by looking at some houses and emailing our agent.

A summary of the situation, probably redundant for most people:
  • Nerdvana is for sale, and we moved out in September.
  • We moved into Nördhöll, the house we were attempting to buy, in Edmonds.
  • We are sharing the house with our friends Mickey and Ogre ( Read more... )

So, at one point I was looking at foreclosure auctions in what turned out to be a vain attempt to acquire a house. As I recall, if you have a valid lease, the house going into foreclosure doesn't result in your eviction - your lease remains valid through a change of ownership. So the idea of being able to stay there and buy when foreclosed isn't so far fetched. Was there perhaps a bank contact on the notice of default, and you might be able to work with the bank to arrange a purchase if they foreclose? Banks usually don't like having to manage and sell real estate, and they might be very happy to have a willing buyer.

Also, can the comcast contracts be transferred or are they location-specific? Perhaps you could temporarily transfer them (and the servers) to a friend's house?

Unfortunately, the /soonest/ they can actually foreclose is something like two days before our lease expires. The seller has already said he doesn't intend to renew our lease. So we're more or less screwed on that score.

The comcast contracts could probably be transferred, yes. But it would not be a small amount of hassle for whomever agrees to host the servers for me. They take up a lot of space and electricity, if nothing else.
