~~~~~
"let's dating,"
"huh?"
a shrug. he scratched his nose nonchalantly, then look away.
"come again?"
he turned his body around, facing her.
"let's dating,"
she, in exchange, scrunched up her nose, chuckling and shaking her head. he grinned, diverted his gaze back toward the white board where their teacher busy writing the today's subject.
"why should we?"
"why can't we?"
"we shouldn't"
"we can"
she put down her pen and glared at his way. he grinned wider without looking directly at her.
she folded her arms on the table and scooted closer to whisper.
"give me reason,"
he doesn't answer, but turn his face to stare at her doe eyes. their face are close, but none of them feel disturbed by it. she's enjoying the stare, keeping her time to wait for his answer.
but nothing came out from the full lips.
just a gentle smile.
and a little wince from her lips when their forehead knocked each other.
the story isn't romantic. it didn't start from a heart thumping first meeting, not love at first sight, not from a misunderstanding cat fight either.
first time they met was on the first day of college. both came too early, so it was only the two of them in that square room. an awkward greeting without knowing each other name, then sit separately. no one started a conversation as they're stranger to each other, he was busy with his phone, while she's preparing for that morning subject.
the class was only filled with 25 students. mutually they have the same circle of friends. at first the students divided themselves into a 2 big groups, then somehow it turn to a small 4 groups. both start off in different groups before he eventually join her groups and become one of her friend.
there's no sparkling feeling. no shyness or heart pounding whenever they're together or accidentally touching hands. they were good friends from the start, with her as someone who love argumentation and him with his wittiness. they clicked with each other, that when there's a homework to do in pair or in groups, they always choose each other. even then, there's no special feeling grew in her heart. and she assumed his too, since there's no hints of different attitude around her.
they hang out together with their gang, playing prank, drunk and going to noraebang together. when it comes to go home, he will walk her home voluntarily since their house are in the same direction. so it become a habit, them, walk together until she reach her home. him, watching until she get to her room and wave him good night from her window.
but still, no heart attached. it's just a respect and care for and from a friend. a close friend.
there's no difference between the past and present. no butterfly in the stomach, no heart thumping even after all those years.
"maybe you should date him,"
she stared at her friend. face blank.
"why should we?"
"what's weird with it?"
"it is weird,"
both stared at each other.
"he's kinda persistent isn't he? just give it a try. he's not a bad man. we know him inside out."
both laughed.
"just because you guys dating each other, don't you dare to push us together, okay?"
"well,...I think it's bound to happen,"
"huh?"
her friend grinned,
"fate,"
she blinked.
in the last 3 years in college, due to different subject and major, their group were separated. some will meet the other in some classes, but most were clashing with each other which made them hard to be together due to different schedule. she and he are the lucky one, 70% of their schedule, they're in the same class or the same time which make it easier for the both of them to stay in contact compared to their other friends. hence, they're always be seen together.
"I think i found a reason for us to date," he said
"what?" she asked uninterested.
"it's comfortable,"
"do we?"
he look at her then to his plate of lunch.
"you don't think so?"
he took a bite at his pasta. munching as he wait for her reply.
"I do think....we are," she trailed her answer.
he grinned. she avoided his gaze.
he continue eating.
"you should find a girlfriend," she said as she checked the thermometer.
he's sick, down from the flu due to drenched in the rain the day before. he's living alone in a small apartment. calling his male friend would be no help so he called her instead. asking for a hot porridge. she whined, but complied finally.
coming to his room with a big bowl of chicken porridge, fruit and medicine since she knew he wouldn't have those. she nag him from his sleep, then check the heat after he dig down the medicine.
she moved swiftly in his apartment, already memorized it since her frequent visit for the last few years.
"girls hate me," he grumbled under his blanket.
she giggles without looking back, "of course, with your dirty habit of living," she kick the dirty shirt on the floor with her bare feet.
"I just need one person who care for me,"
"who?"
he closed his eyes, start dozing off as the effect of the drugs.
she turn around since there's no answer, but without further nagging, she knew who he's meaning.
she tugged him, pull the blanket up to keep him warm then stand up to pick the scattered things on the floor.
he always call her just to clean up.
there's no let's dating request from him anymore, and she didn't ask too. there's no need to complicating things.
but the frequent visit to his apartment is still happen, the hang out together also happen though in a smaller group than before. usually its always around 6-7 people, but lately it's only 3-4, sometimes only the two of them. everyone become busy after graduate from university.
but there's no inconvenience, just like usual. just a bit more skinship.
tidying his hair and clothes become a new habit she developed from being friends with him.
and he boldly hold her hand in his when she feel cold when they walk together at night.
it's strange, but she didn't pull her hand.
it's comfortable after all.
his hands are warm.
and then there's the kiss on her forehead when they arrived on her doorsteps.
it's not often, but happen from time to time.
"what with the kiss?"
"I can't?"
"should you?"
no answer but a ruffle on her hair.
"you're cute, that's why"
"I'm not a cat,"
"cats cuter,"
she laugh. he hug her close, muffling her laugh on his coat. he's laughing too.
then they parted, hands finally let go of the other.
movie night become a new routine on the weekend.
he prepared the snacks and beverage, she's in charge of the DVD.
sometimes he complained with her choice, but in the end he enjoy it.
some of the movies couldn't get finished, sometimes left forgotten.
it's because of his kiss. he stole a kiss when she's not aware, distracting her mind completely.
she couldn't comprehend it but kiss back nevertheless.
wrapping her arms around his neck, sighing in satisfaction.
the few first kiss was innocent.
then recently tongue was involved.
"what?"
she blinked. blushed when she felt the weird sensation from something soft in her mouth she felt moment ago.
he taste like soda they drinks for tonight.
her nervous fingers stroking his black hair.
"weird,"
"huh?"
"this,"
he put their forehead together, sighing softly.
"should we not continue?"
"do you want it?"
he's humming his bold answer.
she giggles against his lips. mouth open slightly to continue what they did a while ago.
"let's live together,"
"huh?"
"it's easier, closer to your office,"
"you just want me to wash your laundry,"
"well, we can do it together,"
he grinned without diverting his gaze from his phone,
"your place is too small,"
he look up from his phone, staring at her.
she's chewing the bread in her hand, eyes busy scanning the words in the novel she just bought.
"are you free this sunday?"
she stopped eating, staring back at the warm eyes.
"why?"
he move his seat to cuddle with her on the sofa.
she instantly snuggled up, nuzzling her head on his neck as he wrapped his arm around her.
"let's get a new apartment,"
she blinked.
"big enough for both of us, closer to our company, and bus stop. have 3 rooms-"
"3 rooms? why so many?"
there's a silence after she asked the question. she look up with an interested eyes while he diverted his gaze toward the balcony of his apartment.
it took a moment too long. she put her book & food beside her as she climb on top his lap.
he holds her body to avoid her from falling.
"why so many?" she ask again softly. wrapping her arms around his neck and peck his lips.
he still didn't answer but tightening his hold on her and dive down to kiss her shoulder gently.
she nested her head on his shoulder, lazily sniffing his manly body scent.
it's comfortable, no awkwardness.
when she's getting sleepy and almost asleep, she hear him whisper after a long sigh,
"I want a boy and a girl,"
she hide her smile. leaning closer to his neck until her lips touch the tan skin.
she's humming her answer against it.
there is difference between the past and present. there's a butterfly in her stomach whenever he near, the heart thumping when he touched her.
the gaze that never waver her before, now make her knees weak.
since when was it starting like this, she didn't know either.
everything coming her way was too comfortable for her to question it.
some love story doesn't have to be romantic, doesn't have to be dramatic.
sometimes, it just roll, without much surprise that could scare her.
she feel blessed.
call her lucky, call her dense, call her anything but she still think her love story isn't romantic.
it is just comfortable.
