It's late. Or early, I suppose. I had a few short nights this week, so I fell asleep kind of early yesterday. After running around all day doing errands (not exactly what I expect my Fridays to be like, but knowing I have Fridays off, I often put errands off until then), I got on my computer to do some stuff, and kept nodding off, so I just ( Read more... )

I can't wait to hear more stories, and am a little jealous that you get to volunteer at a place like that. I know there are plenty in Seattle- just not very many that I can drag a couple of kids to. It does sound like the church nearby will be hosting a Tent City, though, and I made some connections with some of the other moms to hopefully set up the cooking and delivery of a meal or a few... so maybe I'll be able to figure out a way to help out up there.

I'm not playing next weekend, so I'm a bit flexible with my schedule. I'd like to watch the teams play, but I doubt I'll be needed for staffing, either.

It is a very interesting community. While working at the clinic that serves the homeless population I noticed that the majority of patients were not individuals you'd ever suspect to be homeless unless they mentioned it. I did spend a couple of years in California homeless off and on (couch surfing and sleeping outdoors when that wouldn't work) - it's amazing the amount of stuff people accumulate that just isn't needed. I had a backpack and what could fit in it was just fine, I didn't miss having the mountains of belongings that I now fit in my house. I think somewhere with friendlier weather is a bit easier than Idaho to do it in, because in the winter here it must be rough when the shelters are full, but in Idaho it must be easier to get back off the street (the pay rate difference between here and there comes no where near to making up the housing cost difference)
