The only other one I've read was Perdido Street Station, which I liked, but I definitely like this one better. Poor Bellis, though. At the point where I am in the book, I can't see how this will end well for anybody.
I loved Bellis a lot. She's a great character. And I had a huge crush on Uther Duul (or however you spell that) while reading the book. Perdido was all right, but I felt as though the grand amount of slogging one had to do was disportionate to the payoff. And grrr, I hate the choice Isaac made in the end regarding the dude who wanted to fly. Yag?
Yeah, Bellis was cool. She's one of the most realistically complex characters I've encountered in fiction in a long time. I also liked Tanner Sack.
I ended Perdido feeling really ambivalent about the situation with Yag. On the one hand, what he did was pretty horrible, but on the other hand . . . I don't know, it kind of seems like he had been punished enough. And the book spends so much time building him up as a sympathetic character. *shrugs*
