I have just reread "Perelandra", the sequel to "Out of the Silent Planet". I am not really sure if they count as science fiction or fantasy? Maybe to Lewis theology was a science. He certainly can evoke alien worlds, even if the Christian metaphor is even heavier than Narnia. The third in the series "That Hideous Strength" even has a "Lord of the Rings" crossover!

The spellchecker was alright with Narnia, but threw a fit with Perelandra: Prebendary, Purulent, Planetary, Plunderer, Premonitory, Promontory

I've just started on Perelandra, not finding it as interesting as Out of the Silent Planet. I knew that it was all very theological and philosophical, that was one of the reasons the books were recommended to me.
yjadd said she reckoned that it was like science fiction, if you replaced science with religion. My dad was saying you couldn't get books like that any more. I think that a little spirituality/mysticism doesn't hurt SF, although i suppose that's probably due to my fantasy leanings. I think the The Margarets by Sheri S. Tepper has some interesting exploration of divinity, it's my favourite SF book at the moment.
